Goatboy’s Grimdark Armylist – Beware Da Grot Dread Mob!
Goatboy here with another Warhammer 40K Armylist, that’s more Grots than you can shake a stick at, and ALL the Dakka you can imagine. Look out for the Dread Mob!
This was an armylist I faced this past weekend at the Lone Star Open piloted by my buddy Cliff Russell. It is a crazy Ork Grot Dread Mob list that can punish you with shooting, damage, and a ton of body-blocking beats. The game we had was a lot of fun but we’ll talk about that down below as we dive into this list of nonsense.
Let’s throw this list out there to give you an idea. It has a ton of bodies, a lot of wounds, and a metric crap ton of shooting. Cliff was always playing with the Sustained hits power for his units – so he had to roll a lot of Hazardous checks (which he didn’t fail enough dang it!).

Grot Dread Mob Tactics
Basically you’ve got a 100 Gretchin that move up the board, block avenues into his army, and then all your reserves comes on and shoots the other guy in the face. All three Flashgitz are hiding on the sidelines waiting to murder you with their Lethal/Sustained combos. It is a nightmare for an assault army to deal with – especially one that fails three charges in the first round 🙁
This is one of those lists that is just built for team-tournaments as it can easy hose an elite army that isn’t prepared to make a butt load of saves turn after turn. The Bubblechukka Mek Guns are amazing as each of their profiles is good – especially with reroll 1’s to hit and Sustained on 6’s. The damage just goes bonkers too, and it is a whole heck of a lot of backfield units for an opponent to try to reach.
I think I ended up killing all the Grots or most of them as I watched my army get whittled away, Overwatched to death, and just picked apart as I couldn’t hide behind enough terrain to matter. The Grot Dread Mob is a pretty rough list and, while amazing, it is a rather expensive one to get on the tabletop with all those 5 model boxes or single choice boxes to try and get. Good job to Cliff and it is a shame he didn’t get to fight the winning list and it’s horde of Accursed Cultists.
