Goatboy’s Grimdark Armylist – Fear the Black Templars Horde
Goatboy here with a doozy of an army list – showing the power the Black Templars can bring to the tabletop with ground-pounding horde.
Goatboy here with an army list from this past weekend’s World Team championship (WTC) event. The winner of the Singles event helped his team win the overall with this list and it is a doozy. A pure horde of crazy Black Templar bodies that cover the table, bring waves of damage, and just so many bodies to chew through. It is one of those lists that people theory-hammer and the idea of painting that many Space Marine bodies can be a daunting one.
As we’ve talked about in the past, there is an underlying army style in 40K that doesn’t always show up nearly as much. This is the whole horde mentality list that just covers the table in bodies. It crushes the opponent under a wave of beef, and keeps you scoring Primary Mission objective turn after turn. There are a few lists that can do it but the Black Templar horde is one the feels very strong in this current 40K meta game.
Olivier Weiss took the following list to the singles event win at the WTC and then again was wrecking people with the same list in the teams. It is a very interesting thing to see the list do well on both sides of the meta and really showcases how the French really were ahead of the game during the event. All their lists were well tuned, unique, and showed up towards the top of the Singles even as well.

Black Templars Horde Tactics
As you can see you have five 20-man strong units of guys, some Scouts to push things away from the blobs, and then characters to “activate” the units with things like rerolls, lethal hits, and other fun things. You can see how you can have two units with a 5+ FNP which on a unit of twenty 2-wound guys really starts to become a problem to chew through. It is a pretty spectacular list, and most likely will give most armies a fit to try and chew through. It is just so many bodies it becomes a nightmare to get enough damage through their armor save and Feel No Pain saves.
Will we see this show up in your local event? Well, if someone is asking in the Discords where they can get a bunch of Black Templar guys you can expect the list to show up. I don’t know if my back could handle moving all those models around but it feels like a well-designed rough list and something to worry about in bigger events.
For the Emperor!
