Talk about cream-filled cookies; Larian Studios reveals how a package of Oreos shaped an illicit mind flayer scene in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Also spoilers, I guess, for a game that came out more than a year ago. But yeah. You can have a spicy romance with a mind flayer in Baldur’s Gate 3, proving that Larian really does know what the people want: bisexual vampires, muscle mommies, and tentacle monsters.

Ah yes, the three genders.

Behind the Scenes with Larian Studios Reveals Much More Than You Would Expect

Recently, Larian Studios has been taking players behind the scenes of some of the incredible animation work that went into Baldur’s Gate 3. The game features innovative use of motion capture, with facial rigs to capture performer’s expressions, and a ton of work put into the combat animations.

You can see some of this in action on Larian’s Channel from Hell, the studios’ BTS YouTube channel dedicated to taking you into the mystery. In the video above, you get to see Michael Li, who has studied kung fu for more than 15 years and whose movements went into the strikes and stances of the Monk, one of the most powerful classes in all of Baldur’s Gate 3.

And then there’s the Larian Twitter, which revealed a different sort of behind-the-scenes look.

Since we’re sharing a behind-the-scenes look at how Baldur’s Gate 3 was made, here’s our Senior Cinematic Artist, @HighLODLar, stroking a pack of cream-filled biscuits as a reference for the tentacle-stroking animation during the sex scene with the Emperor.

Yes, really.

And it absolutely explains everything that The Emperor would have Golden Oreos for tentacles. If you watch that animation, be careful not to stare too long into its sensuous depths.

Anyway, it’s the little details like that that really transform Baldur’s Gate 3. That kind of care and craft you don’t see every day. Or ever. But here it is, and we are richer for it.
