The LEGO Group and Asmodee are collaborating on a new Board Game studio. Say hello to Dotted Games and their first game Monkey Palace.

You probably know about LEGO. And, if you’re into Board Games, you’ve probably played some produced by Asmodee. Now, the LEGO Group and Asmodee are teaming up to bring a new batch of Board Games to the market. They have created a new studio dubbed Dotted Games which is dedicated to this partnership to produce Board Games for all types of players.

Introducing Dotted Games

via Asmodee

“Dotted Games will nurture and develop all games within the LEGO Group and Asmodee’s partnership. With an experienced team at the helm, its mission is to bring the best LEGO board games to fans and families, while unlocking fresh avenues of play thanks to the versatility of LEGO bricks. The Dotted Games team, based in Denmark, brings decades of invaluable experience in the board gaming industry, boasting a remarkable collection of awards between them.”

Furthermore, their first game is already on the way. Monkey Palace is a family friendly light strategy game. It’s jungle-themed where players will have to work collaboratively and still compete against each other.

“Monkey Palace will be available to buy globally following its worldwide debut at Essen Spiel happening October 3, 2024.”

In game players will have to rebuild the Monkey Palace. They will need to build ever upwards and create longer and taller buildings to get more bricks and banana points. Honestly, it sounds like fun time with LEGO bricks and with more structure thanks to the game rules. But this is just the first game. There’s already a party game in the works.

“On the back of Monkey Palace, Dotted Games has been developing Brick Like This!, a family party game where the key words are teamwork, communication and building with LEGO bricks. The game is for 2-8 players for ages 7+ with simple rules for everyone to join in.”

You can read the press release from Asmodee above or a slightly different one from the LEGO Group here.

“This collaboration was the result of extensive research and development undertaken by both companies, with the shared goal of creating new social experiences in play that transcend generations. Together, the LEGO Group and Asmodee aim to discover innovative ways to combine the beloved LEGO System in Play with the socially interactive nature of board games, delivering new and unique play experiences for families and LEGO fans.”

LEGO Board Games? Yes, Please!

Personally, I love this idea. Asmodee brings a lot of Board Game industry knowledge and LEGO is, well LEGO. I’m excited to see what sorts of innovative new Board Game mechanics this opens up. While these initial Board Games both sound very family friendly, I do wonder where they plan on taking these games later. LEGO is a world-wide phenomenon and has a generational reach that few brands can match. Tapping into that for with Board Games seems like smart play. We’ll be watching this one to see how it pans out!

This opens up a whole lot of possibilities for the future of this Dotted Games as a studio.
