Marvel: Crisis Protocol – ‘Dark Future’ Terrain Kit Unboxed
The Dark Future Terrain Kit is in the house and it’s a great accessory for Marvel: Crisis Protocol scatter terrain!
Sometimes you just need a few pieces of terrain to really take your boards to the next level. That’s where kits like the Dark Future Terrain Pack come in handy. I’ve written about this one before and covered the One-Shot rules. It’s similar in function to the Battle for Asgard Terrain in that it adds a bunch of cool scatter terrain options. I was lucky enough to be the one that got to review the copy that Atomic Mass Games sent us. And boy am I glad about it!
What’s great about this set is that these just happen to be the same terrain pieces you’d want to replace tokens in the Rejuvenation Chamber Ultimate Encounter.
Eagle-eyed readers might have notices these tokens line up perfectly with the contents of this box! The chests are from the Shrine of En Sabah Nur, which I also covered. Basically, if you’re a crazy Apocalypse fan and you want to run the Ultimate Encounter you can do that with just the Rejuvenation Shrine. But AMG also made all these kits work together for the ultimate thematic table.
With all that said, let’s get into it.
Dark Future Terrain Unboxed
Just like other sets we’ve got the standard baggy for terrain and cards. I don’t think this is a shock to anyone at this point, right? And again the cards come in multiple supported languages — as is now standard.
This box actually comes with TWO One-Shot cards so have fun with these optional rules. You can use one or both — I don’t think the MCP police are going to come knocking if you want to do that in your games. That’s kind of the point…have fun with them!
The sprues are pretty cool. There’s loads of double-ups here but that just means more terrain for you to use overall. The details are impressive across the board for terrain. How impressive? Well, good thing I built it all to show it off!
Dark Future Terrain Assembled
First, we have these tanks. They have a body inside that has pipes and stuff coming off of them. What I liked about this kit is that you can basically assemble this whole thing without glue. I’m planning on painting these up and then gluing it all shut…eventually. But I really liked being able to dry fit these tanks to show them off.
Here’s the full set on display as well. It’s actually a really nice set of scatter terrain overall. Plus, each piece has the size indicated on the bottom of the mini as you’ll see below.
I like the look of these pylons. Above you can see how they look from all four sides. That ended up being a nice way to show off all four of them together. They have a lot of good details with the geometric lines. It’s almost kind of an Art-Deco-meets-Egypt vibe to me.
Here are the pipes and you get two of them. Conveniently they are also size 2. I need to double check what they do in the Ultimate Encounter. I also like how they have an elongated footprint as well.
Here’s the four braziers. And the one tipped over so you can see they are also size 2. Take note of the stone texture and also the “circuitry” look. I really like this blend of “bronze age” tech and the celestial tech from the comics. Which makes sense given Apocalypse’s history.
Again, I really liked these tanks and you get two of them. I’ll be honest, I’m a little worried about painting and gluing the clear plastic. But I’ll figure it out. I know there’s loads of ways to do it. I might try the tape-method for the painting of them this time. Alternatively, I could just leave them unglued and the clear parts unpainted. But hey, if I’m going to go all in, I’m gonna do it right!
I really do like the entire Apocalypse Wave of stuff for MCP. It’s such an awesome set when you’ve got it all combined. And Apocalypse is one of those villains that should have gotten this amount of cool stuff. Hopefully this isn’t the last time AMG does this for a release…
The Dark Future Terrain Pack is up for pre-order now. It’s out in stores on September 27, 2024!
Marvel: Crisis Protocol – Dark Future Terrain Pack $74.99
Imagine a world where one of its strongest defenders was never able to rise to their destiny. A world where an evil that would have been opposed was able to sweep aside all those that were left to stand in his way. See before you the results of a world where those who stand for truth and justice lacked the power to oppose Apocalypse. Debris is all that remains of once vibrant cities that couldn’t withstand the rise of a violent, aggressive mutant-kind. This is a world where weaker mutants and humanity as a whole are on the run. Prepare to bring this dark future to a tabletop near you with the Dark Future Terrain pack.
I really need to schedule a day to play the Ultimate Encounter. Do y’all wanna read how it goes? Let me know in the comments!
