The Shrine to En Sabah Nur is a fantastic piece of terrain for Marvel: Crisis Protocol and we’re taking a look inside the box!

Atomic Mass Games has really stepped up the terrain game with the Apocalypse release. They have some awesome kits coming out and we got a preview of them. Today, we’re diving into the Shrine To En Sabah Nur Terrain Pack. And if you’re not too caught-up on your comics that’s basically a shrine to Apocalypse! Which explains the Egyptian themes.

There’s some good stuff in this box so lets dive in!

As far as packaging goes it’s what you’d expect from AMG. We’ve got cards in one baggy and the sprues in a much larger one. This was a big kit with three big frames for the sprues and bits. I did get this one built and we’ll cover more of that below.

As far as the cards these are another set of One-Shots you can use. You get multiple versions in the various languages supported.  This one is Trial of Survival. Not only does it add 2 to the threat level (meaning you can bring a more potent set of characters to the mission) but it also adds in some fun rules. First off, if you’re using the One-Shot you get to add the Shrine to the tabletop. Next, everyone gets access to the “Survival is Strength” rule. This rule means that you’re characters are overlapping the Shrine, they will get to heal 1 damage whenever they take any damage — provided they survived. I could see this being extremely helpful for characters that have damage reduction or even characters with Bodyguard-type abilities. Colossus on this thing would be a monster. As would Apocalypse himself!

As for the sprues, as mentioned above these are all on very large frames. But don’t let that intimidate you. This kit was actually relatively easy to assemble. That’s because there’s a lot of repeating bits like the braziers on the sides. But, even with all the repeating things, AMG’s sculptors made the bits fit in very particular ways. So, as long as you’re matching the “shapes” you really can’t screw this one up. I found this to be extremely helpful because the digital instructions aren’t out yet because the kit isn’t technically out yet. Lucky for me I know my way around building miniature kits.

Speaking of…let’s take a look at this kit assembled!

The full shrine is a really cool kit once built. There are also two chests that come with it as well as a weird “console” thing. Not really sure what that terrain is supposed to be but it looks thematically appropriate. I also like the chests and how they have a TON of cool details on them. I have plans on how I want to paint those up.

Speaking of details this kit has some really impressive ones with all the textures on the stone. Plus all the cool geometric shapes help add some depth to the terrain. There was a lot of care that went into designing these kits.

The top of the shrine also has these cool textures and shapes carved into them. With some real basic painting techniques you will get some awesome results. I’m planning on a super basic base coat + wash + dry brush. I think that will make all that texture really pop out of this kit.

Here’s a look at the sides of this kit. Even the stands that hold the braziers have glyphs carved into them. I also like the circuit-board looks carved into the reliefs around this terrain set. And yes, there are some gaps after assembly. I’ll fix that with some filler before priming and those gaps will vanish.

The back part of this building also had this really cool design. I kind of wish I didn’t glue everything down so I could get to it to paint a little better. Learn from my mistakes and do a sub assembly for this part!

And here’s a look at the Shrine with Apocalypse out front. I think it all turned out quite nicely!

I know the terrain kits might not be for everyone but I think they also add a lot to the game. Between the One-shots and the cool pieces themselves I think they are worth it. If you get all the Apocalypse-themed terrain it makes for a pretty amazing set for a table. Plus you can run the Ultimate Encounter with Apocalypse and have physical terrain pieces instead of just tokens. I’m quite looking forward to that!

The Shrine to En Sabah Nur is currently up for pre-order and will be available in stores September 27, 2024.

Marvel: Crisis Protocol – Shrine to En Sabah Nur Terrain Pack $69.99

“En Sabah Nur is the original name of the ruthless mutant known as Apocalypse. Raised by a nomadic warrior in the pitiless deserts of ancient Egypt, he survived starvation and hardships to forge his skills. He has reawakened throughout the centuries to become ever more powerful, utilizing technology not of this world to augment his own natural powers. Not a being that will suffer weakness or pity, he has come to conquer North America and has designs on the entire world. Promoting a philosophy based around the survival of the strongest, he believes mutant kind should be the dominant species on Earth and is relentless in hunting down weaker mutants and humanity in general. He fosters a cutthroat atmosphere in those who follow him and demands what he considers his due from those that follow his ideals, something that is never more evident than in the Shrines erected in his image.”
