New Dragonlance Trilogy, ‘Dragonlance Legacies’ Announced for 2026
Dragonlance Legacies will carry on the Dragonlance torch with a new trilogy from Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, coming in 2026.
It is hard to be a Dragonlance fan some days. From a live-action TV series that was canceled to novel delays, sometimes it can seem like the world is arrayed against you. And then other days, you hear that the creators of Dragonlance, Margaret Weis, and Tracy Hickman, have announced a new trilogy coming out in about two years.
Some days, it’s good to be a Dragonlance fan. And today is one of those days. Dragonlance Legacies will feature two legendary figures from Dragonlance, in a sort of fun High Republic kind of vibe. Here’s what we know so far!
Dragonlance Legacies – A New Trilogy from Weis and Hickman
Both Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman made posts on their official Facebook pages, with Weis announcing the subject matter:
Tracy and I are pleased to announce Dragonlance Legacies. The story of the legendary wizard, Magius, and his friendship and adventures with the Solamnic knight, Huma. Published by Random House Worlds. 2026.
While Hickman revealed that the series was, in fact, a new trilogy:
Margaret Weis and I will be writing a new trilogy: Dragonlance Legacies. First book: War Wizard.
The new series has fans excited already. Especially with the choice of its protagonists, the Solmanic Knight Huma Dragonbane and his closest companion, the Wizard Magius. Huma Dragonbane was the hero responsible for defeating the evil goddess Takhisis in the Third Dragon War. While the Wizard Magius fought so bravely that he explained why Wizards had proficiency with daggers in Krynn in later editions. No, seriously, though.
The new story will be one of Weis and Hickman’s own making, though, and is said to focus on their early years. So though the pair’s ultimate fate and heroic sacrifices are known, this new adventure will see what their friendships were like before the time.
I’m curious as to how the “legacies” aspect will carry forward. But it’s new ground for the creators to tread, and with the first book set to release in 2026, it is once again an exciting time to be a Dragonlance fan.
Or if you can’t wait, you can always pre-order Dragonlance Chronicles, the new omnibus edition of the original trilogy, with a foreword from Joe Manganiello, the ultimate Dragonlance fan.
