The Star Wars: Shatterpoint Maintenance Bay Terrain Pack is a functionally fantastic piece to add to your terrain collection.

When it comes to thematic terrain Star Wars: Shatterpoint’s kits certainly have a theme going. The kits tend to be large with square features and nice flat levels to play on. That holds true for the Maintenance Bay Terrain Pack and we’ve got it in the house to take a look!

Maintenance Bay Terrain Pack

Atomic Mass Games sent a copy to review and this was actually my first Terrain Pack to check out for Shatterpoint (beyond the core set). So I wasn’t 100% sure what to expect.

It’s got the same sorts of packaging from other AMG products. All the sprues came in a plastic bag and there was the standard “flyer” that came with it as well.  I don’t know about other folks but I keep a hold of those plastic baggies for bits or storage for all the various cards you get for Shatterpoint. Anyhow, let’s take a look at those sprues!

In total there were five sprues in the box. This kit has a lot of very large, flat surfaces with a lot of details. I believe Adam Savage (who had worked at ILM for a bunch of Star Wars movies) calls those little details greeblies(sp?). While he was talking about kit bashing bits to use on other kits, this particular terrain pack has some really cool greeblies all over the place.

There’s also a couple of rather large, thick pieces to this kit. In particular the “floor” of the Maintenance Bay. That is one solid piece and it adds a lot of structure and stability to this set. Also, if you don’t glue it in place, you can build the “arm” on the rails in a way so that it slides.

The wall in the Maintenance Bay kit also has these other surfaces. You can leave the doors off the shelves (on the upper left of this image) or you can glue them in place to cover up the details. This kit also comes with a ladder so you can place that anywhere on the side to get to the second floor.

Now, I did assemble this kit and we’ll have another article looking at it completed. I learned a few things while building it that I’m looking forward to sharing. But for now I just want to say that I’m pleased with this kit overall.

When it comes to miniature wargame terrain there’s a few things I’m looking for: stability, playability, and theme. In terms of stability, I have zero concerns that this terrain is going to fall apart once I put models on it as it’s very sturdy. For playability, this kit is very functional and you can easily reach in and move your miniature around with out stuff blocking your way. And for theme this set will slide in perfectly with the existing terrain options for Star Wars: Shatterpoint as it shares a lot of the same visual cues as previous options.

The Star Wars: Shatterpoint – Maintenance Bay Terrain Pack is currently available and out in the wild. If you are looking for another great terrain set for you Shatterpoint games you can’t go wrong with this one. It’s a pricier kit but it’s also one you’ll be using for a long, long time.

This Outer Rim maintenance bay joins our collection of terrain packs for Star Wars™: Shatterpoint. Together with its mischievous womprat, this terrain adds a thematic centerpiece to create cover and enhance gameplay as well as providing an exciting hobby opportunity for assembly and painting. It is the perfect compliment to the terrain found in the Star Wars: Shatterpoint Core Set.
