Hobbyists rejoice! The paints formerly known as Formula P3 are coming back. Steamforged Games is Kickstarting them on September 10th!

Back in June it was announced that Steamforged Games had picked up the rights to a TON of Privateer Press IP. We’ve already seen their plans for Warmachine and how they want to rebuild the Iron Kingdoms. And now we’re getting an update on a favorite for hobby painters of all types: P3 is coming back!

“Originally known as ‘Formula P3’, P3 paints were first released by Privateer Press for use with tabletop minis back in 2006. P3 quickly became a favourite among painters everywhere for a few key reasons: rich pigmentation, smooth consistency, silky brush feel, and ease of control.

The creamy consistency of the original paints also made them ideal to work with for both beginners and advanced painters, so it’s no wonder P3 became a popular choice for hobbyists looking for professional results.”

P3 Hobby Paints Return

Here’s what Mat Hart, founder and creative director of Steamforged Games had to say about the new P3 Paints:

There’s more to the press release (which you can read at the link above) but the main point is that P3 is back! Personally, I’ve missed this paint line. In particular the Thamar Black color they had was just the best one out there. From the sound of things it does seem like this paint might not be the exact formulation as the old Formula P3 line — but I’m willing to give it a try. I think that core of what made P3 paints is there: rich colors, “staying wet” longer, and consistent performance off the brush.

I’m also VERY curious about their new metallics that are coming out. I’d certainly like to give them a fair shake, too! I know there are a lot of paint brands out there and people do have their favorites. However, I’d encourage folks to try lots of different paint brands. That’s one of the reasons I’m excited about P3 making a comeback. It was a line of paints that I liked for different things vs other brands. And if this new version holds up, that’s just one more tool in the hobby arsenal to use.

The P3 Paints Kickstarter is going live on September 10th. You can follow it now and be notified when it goes live. I’ve already got that notification going myself! This is one I don’t want to miss.

I really hope they bring back Thamar Black…
