I guess you could say it’s time for the Xeno to Morph. Free League just announced a new edition of the ALIEN RPG at Gen Con 2024.

Gen Con 2024 is in full swing. And the time is at hand for everyone to announce their big new reveals. D&D has their showing, but Free League just announced a 2nd Edition of their ALIEN RPG. And it’s coming to Kickstarter soon and your tabletop not long after.

Just in time to celebrate the 5th Anniversary of the ALIEN RPG, too. Hard to believe it’s been five years since Free League first brought the world of ALIEN to tabletops. But their Cinematic Play and Campaign Play dynamic plays extremely well with the sci-fi horror of the ALIEN universe.

Whether you’re looking for thrills or chills, you’ll find them both in the ancient alien horrors lurking out there in the stars, or in the corporate bureaucracy of Weyland-Yutani. Here’s a look at the full announcement!

Free League Announces ALIEN RPG 2nd Edition at Gen Con

In Space, Everyone Will Hear You Scream for Joy for the Second Edition of ALIEN RPG.

Free League’s Kickstarter This Fall will Debut a New Wave of 2e Releases, Including New Core Rules, Starter Set, Cinematic Scenario Set, and Miniatures Line.

For five glorious years, Free League Publishing and 20th Century Studios have explored the ultimate reaches of the ALIEN universe. In celebration of the critically acclaimed ALIEN RPG’s 5th anniversary in 2024, Free League proudly announced their plans to unleash a Second Edition of the multiple award-winning game rules across an expansive new line of rulebooks, starter sets, cinematics, and accessories. The stress fest begins with bug hunts aplenty through an epic Kickstarter launching this Fall.

That’s straight from the press release for 2nd Edition. But, besides “more stuff” what will actually be in the 2nd Edition?

Well it’s still very early to tell. So far all we know is that the rules will change to reflect feedback from “thousands of players over five years of adventures.” You get the standard “updated and streamlined” appellation to reflect the rules. TTRPG designers love to streamline things, don’t they?

You never see someone saying “we actually made the game more complex” – but maybe in another five years we’ll see the trend start to reverse.

Along with the rules changes, a miniatures line and a new cinematic scenario boxed set to go with the miniatures. So you can have a tiny little xenomorph for your tabletop. And while technically it’s an ALIEN miniature, you could put the Xenomorph in any game. At any time. All you need is a few eggs and someone curious enough to stick their face near ’em.
