This Medicine Seller cosplay from Mononoke is going to make you think Lutavia cosplay really is coming to deal with your ghost problems.

Mononoke is one of the under appreciated masterpieces of the anime genre. It’s a series of spooky-but-never-really-scary short stories where the Medicine Seller comes to town and deals with whatever ghosts or ghouls, or discontent spirits are hanging around. Every story is its own little mystery as we watch him unravel the source of this week’s haunting. And ever episode is gorgeous.

One of the coolest things about this series is the animation style and the use of pattern and color. It makes the show so unique and unmistakable. In fact, between the name being very close to Ghibli’s Princess Mononoke, and the art style being a little more colorful than your average ghost story’s color pallet, it can make Mononoke a little hard for people to break into… Or even know what to make of it.

So I was delighted to see Lutavia Cosplay’s take on the Medicine Seller and recognized it right away. I love a veryveryvery detailed cosplay. I’m immediately a sucker for any costume where you can tell that hours were poured into getting individual details right. And this is definitely one of those cosplays. Between big handmade appliques, custom dyed fabric, and handmade props to use for photoshoot ambiance, this is a costume you know took time.

“As long as darkness exists within the hearts of men, there will always be more. Let them come, for my invitation is what they fear most.”
