Is it time to retire these miniatures from Warhammer 40,000 for a new version or should the Warp Spiders just keep on going?!

Games Workshop has a lot of old miniatures in the range. Some of these kits are old enough to order drinks in the US legally. However, just one of these kits is old enough to be the father of the next generation of Warhammer players. And that kit is the Warp Spider.

The Aeldari Warp Spiders are from 1994. That makes them 30 years old this year. Just let that sink in for a minute. Yeah, I feel old, too.

They pre-date Primaris Marines by YEARS. Warp Spiders came out when lead was still being used by the industry — but you might find some in pewter now. Finecast wasn’t a thing when they were created. They came out before “Aeldari” was even a term. The Warp Spider Miniatures are OLD.

Time For A Glow Up?

We’ve seen what GW has done with the other Aspect Warriors. The Howling Banshees, Dark Reapers, Striking Scorpions, and even the Shining Spears.

So is it time the Warp Spiders got some love, too? Personally, I’m a little conflicted about this one! The Warp Spider Kit holds a special place in my heart now! I’ve literally grown up with those miniatures. They were new when I was a kid and they are still around. That means something.

That said, I’ve also seen what the new GW plastics and sculptors can do. And frankly, that gets me excited about the possibility of new Warp Spiders. And maybe even a surprise resurgence of a Warp Spider Exarch? Just tossing that one out there, GW…

The absolutely strangest thing to me is that Warp Spiders are still being sold on the webstore. And they are older than the creation of the Games Workshop WEBSITE!

At this point I kind want GW to just keep making the Warp Spiders as is. I wonder how long the Warp Spiders can go before they get replaced. Maybe in the future GW will have the option for both a “new” version and the current ones just to keep them alive.

What do you think? Should GW keep the Warp Spiders or give them a glow-up?
