Age of Sigmar: Blood Bowl Star Player Is A Reminder We Need New Temple Guard
The Seraphon got a massive update in the previous edition. But one unit was still left in the cold. Where are the new Temple Guard?
While the unit’s name changed to Saurus Guard their function basically remained the same. As did their models. The “Temple Guard” unit is the elite sect of Saurus Warriors there to defend their leaders against the deadly threats on the battlefield.
The problem is that the new Saurus Warriors look a lot meaner and visually are a better miniature. That’s because they are more recent and got a new unit refresh. One that was much needed, mind you. However, while the base Saurus Warriors got revamped the Saurus Guard miniatures did not. That’s the unfortunate problem and it needs to be remedied.
It’s even more of an issue when you see what Blood Bowl is cooking up for their Lizardmen team:
This is the Saurus Star Player Anqi Panqi. But not just any Saurus Warrior. He’s an old school Temple Guard in fact. But this is a tease of what COULD be for the Saurus Guard. The bone-helmet, the extra jewelry, the more dynamic pose… And remember this isn’t the first time GW has “tested” new Saurus before an update either.
The Blood Bowl Saurus were updated long before we got the new Seraphon update. At the time, I even mentioned that these Saurus are showing what COULD be for the AoS versions. Hopefully, this is just another case of that teasing before an update.
While these miniatures are fine and functional I wouldn’t mind seeing them get a nice glow-up, too. They look a little stunted next to the new Saurus Warriors at this point. I’d like to see those bone-helmets and extra armor pieces get grafted onto the Saurus Warriors kit. At minimum. But the 3D bones are there for GW to do their magic already. It’s really just a “fancier” Saurus Warriors unit at the end of the day, right?
I mean, the Astrolith Bearer is already there. Maybe even a BETTER example of what the updated “Temple” Guard could be. Oh well. Slann are notorious for their long term plans. Maybe this is one of those cases…
What do you think? Would you like to see the Saurus Guard updated into true Temple Guard miniatures once again?
