Now that the Player’s Handbook is out in the wild, the time has come to preview the new Dungeon Master’s Guide and it all starts October 1st.

Yesterday, Wizards of the Coast posted a list of when and where you can find previews of the new Dungeon Master’s Guide. The 5.5E DMG, which is set to launch November 12th (or two weeks earlier if you have the right kind of D&D Beyond pre-order subscription bonus), will be packed full of all sorts of exciting new features for DMs.

With chapters dedicated to worldbuilding and campaign and adventure building, it’s going to be a good resource for running the game. At least, that’s the hope. You can see some of it for yourself, starting October 1st, on D&D’s YouTube channel.

Dungeon Master’s Guide Previews Coming October 1st

On Tuesday, October 1st, according to the post from D&D’s YouTube channel, you’ll have a chance to see “Everything You Want To Know About The 2024 Dungeon Master’s Guide” – though by now, we likely know what it will entail.

Earlier this year, we got some previews of what you can expect from the 5.5E Dungeon Master’s Guide. Here’s a quick breakdown:

  • Chapter 1 – Basic Concepts for Running the Game, essentially your “what is DMing?” section
  • Chapter 2 – Advice and common issues, aka the “what kinds of players do you have” portion
  • Chapter 3 – Rules Cyclopedia, if they’re going to have a list of special rules like Renown or Climbing on Big Creatures, it’ll be here
  • Chapter 4 – Adventure Building, complete with example adventure built using the system
  • Chapter 5 – Campaign building, including advice for putting campaigns together
  • Chapter 6 – Cosmology, is it still the Great Wheel?
  • Chapter 7 – 100 Pages of new Magic Iems
  • Chapter 8 – Greyhawk and how Greyhawk can make your own setting
  • Appendices – Your maps, lore, glossary, and a big fold-out poster

So keep an eye out on for October 1st and get ready for some specifics ranging from frustratingly vague to crystal clear.

Also, it should be a crime that next week is already October. Just saying.
