We’ve got Apocalypse in the house and we’re taking an up close look at the First Mutant’s miniature for Marvel: Crisis Protocol!

It’s no surprise that I’m excited about Apocalypse joining Marvel: Crisis Protocol. We took a look at what was inside his box as well as the three different terrain sets for his release. And now we’re taking some time to admire this miniature up close. So thanks to Atomic Mass Games for sending us a review copy of him early. Now let’s dive into the miniature!

Apocalypse Up Close

Apocalypse is one of the classic Marvel Mutants and often antagonist to the X-Men. So I’m pleased with how well AMG translated him to plastic. They’ve got all the hallmarks of the comic book character. He’s got the weird celestial tech mixed in with his mutant abilities and even has those somewhat cartoonish “A’s” on his armor.

From the sides and back you can see even more details on him. I was impressed with the way they sculpted some extra layers on to his armor and pants. Instead of just making them flat surfaces the little details of the piping and edges make the miniature more visually interesting.  I also like the added details on his back, too. It’s like a hint of that celestial tech once again — almost like an exhaust or something for the armor itself.

Apocalypse also comes with those two other statues as added terrain. It’s funny because they have quite a bit of details for some seemingly random terrain bits. I like the commitment! All those edges will be great for a quick base coat and drybrush.

Now I showed this off before but I wanted to include this picture once again for scale purposes. Just in case anyone missed it the first time.

Again, he’s not as big as a Sentinel but he’s taller than Hulk — although not as wide. Apocalypse also has different hand options as you can choose to go with a combination of hands and/or a blaster and/or a buzzsaw.

I opted for the traditional “monologue” hands. I’m convinced you can magnetize all four hand options as well. Unfortunately I was pressed for time and feeling a tad lazy. I did add the magnets to the blaster arm and buzzsaw…but I had to stop there.

The Apocalypse Is Coming

In any case, Apocalypse slated to arrive on September 27, 2024. I really can’t wait to see what the community does with him in terms of hobby stuff. I’m also very curious to try my hand at playing with his Affiliation. It’s a tad more complex that some of the other ones out there but that’s kind of the point. Atomic Mass Games really stretched the design space with what’s possible with this release. I think the playerbase is going really enjoy experimenting with him.

Marvel: Crisis Protocol – Apocalypse $69.99

En Sabah Nur is one of the world’s first mutants and a being of immense power that hails from ancient Egypt. He has managed to extend his life across thousands of years by utilizing futuristic technology that allows him to enter long periods of a regenerative process, awakening each time more powerful than the last. Abandoned as an infant due to his appearance, he was saved from an untimely end by a band of nomadic raiders that raised him with the belief that the strong are those who deserved to survive. This core philosophy drives him down the path he now follows as he awakens throughout history to impose his will. During this time, he has become known by a new name: Apocalypse. Now, he has awoken once again and begun gathering his Horsemen in order to teach humanity and all those who oppose him the true meaning of strength! This expansion pack provides players with everything they need to add Apocalypse to their games of Marvel: Crisis Protocol.

Oh he’s deck for painting. I just have another project I’m working on first…
