Atomic Mass Games just dropped the cards on the new Imperial Riot Control Squad for Star Wars: Legion. Send in the riot team!

Star Wars: Legion is getting a new unit for the Imperials. The Riot Control Squad is coming to squash the rebellion with some brute force. If you’re looking to quell those pesky insurrections then send in the Riot Control Squad to the front lines. They have the training and the tools to use the force…blunt force that is!

“With thousands of planets under its control, the Galactic Empire often employed specialized units at local garrisons to respond to unrest and insurrections. Composed of the toughest troopers who distinguished themselves from the normal rank and file, these soldiers were known for their heavy-handed tactics and brutal methods. They were armed with shields that could be used to redirect attacks and stun batons to bring an enemy to their knees. Often found at the front line, these units were always at the center of the action. Raise your shield and prepare for contact as we take a closer look at Imperial Riot Control Troopers for Star Wars™: Legion.”

Imperial Riot Control Squad

This unit starts with a core of four troopers. Each one has 1 Health per miniature and 1 Courage. For 50 points, it’s a very straightforward and direct unit. That’s not a bad thing! They have a couple special rules that really help them out as well. First up, they have Charge which means they can do a move action followed by a free melee attack action. This should help them close the gap and attack as soon as they are in range with their 1 black die Stun Batons (that also have Suppressive).

Furthermore, they also have Hold The Line which is a new keyword to the game. This one buffs the unit up when they are engaged with the enemy. It grants them a Surge to Hit and Surge to Block. When combined with those Stun Batons they can really sap the action economy from the enemy. And to top it all off, they also come with a red defense die, too. They are well protected after all.

The Riot Control Squad also has access to two brand new upgrade cards in addition to some old favorites. There’s the Stormtrooper Marksmen that adds some range threat to the squad. When they aren’t engaged, they can toss out a red die shot at an enemy trooper unit. That shot can cause a wound and also a suppression token to the target. Note that you just need line of sight for this and there’s no range limit…

The other upgrade is the new KX-Series Security Droid. The upgrade adds two of these droids to the squad and they pack a punch. They swing with a red die and also add Impact 1 to the attacks. Both of these upgrades are 30 points as well.

For this package it’s important to look at not just their card but also what other options you can add to your list to enhance them even more. They’ve got a training slot as well as a gear slot, too. Cunning leaders might want to add upgrades that help with their low courage or mobility. Another idea that AMG mentioned was bringing them alongside Director Krennic to get more use out of the Compel keyword.
