It’s amazing what this rag-tag group of Rebels managed to pull off against the Empire. The Rebel Sleeper Cell is here to show how it’s done!

The Rebel Sleeper Cell is coming to Star Wars: Legion and soon you’ll be able to add them to your army. They may not be able to take on the Empire in a straight-up fight…but they don’t plan on fighting fair! We’ve got a rules preview to dig into so let’s get to work.

“Insurgence is a subtle art. While passionate speeches and public figures keep the spirit alive, the real work is done by the soldiers on the ground who work to grow the roots of a burgeoning Rebellion. These individuals come together to form teams of clandestine pockets of resistance and ultimately aim to exploit seams in the Empire’s defenses. While these efforts can look like simple errors in the great Imperial machine, they are much more noticeable when instead used as the opening salvos in the lead-up to open warfare. When a sleeper cell is finally ready to reveal itself, these teams are a critical tool in any commander’s arsenal.”

Clocking with a base points cost of 70 you’ve got plenty of upgrade options. It counts as a Special Forces unit and comes with six miniatures to start. Not only do they come with two courage, they also have a handful of special rules to assist them in their missions.

Nimble helps this relatively lightly armored unit stick around with dodge tokens. Scout 2 allows them to quickly get into position at the start of the match. And finally, they have Tactical 1 to represent their ability to move and quickly acquire their target.

Weapon wise, they’ve got Blaster Pistols for range. For when things get up close and personal, they can still use the Blaster Pistols with Suppressive or they can get crazy with the Det Packs. Impact 1 means that vehicles probably don’t want to get too close!

In terms of upgrade cards, they’ve got access to two new ones. The R4 Astromech droid has been “retrofitted for early warning.” In game terms that’s a dodge token for when the unit ends in range of an objective token.

The Rebel Marksman is another new card that adds another member to the unit. For 28 points he’s a potent sniper that can surprise a target. You roll a red die and if it’s a surge or crit, the target unit gains 1 wound and 1 suppression token.

The Rebel Sleeper Cell is currently up for pre-order and has a release date of October 18, 2024.
