That Didn’t Take Long – ‘Baldur’s Gate 3’ Players Have Already Cracked the Modding Tools, Level Editor, and More

Intrepid players have unlocked the full suite of modding tools in Baldur’s Gate 3, going beyond what has been “officially released.”

Baldur’s Gate 3 developers Larian Studios released the official modding tools for the game as part of the big Patch 7 update that dropped last Thursday. By the time the weekend was over and done with, the modding community had unlocked the full suite of mod tools, unlocking “all features and write permissions” for the BG3 Toolkit. Meaning that now, with the right mod, you can create your own levels if you’re willing to go in there and get your hands dirty.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Mod Tools Unlocked – No End of Potential Now

The official modding tools for Baldur’s Gate 3 were robust. But, Larian had intentionally limited them in the official release. Up until Saturday, users may not even have been aware that they were missing features. But one modder has unlocked the toolkit’s full potential.

Nexus Mods user Siegfre released the BG3 Toolkit Unlocked mod this past Saturday. As Siegfre describes it, this mod unlocks all sorts of potential:

“This mod unlocks all the disabled features and enables write permissions for the BG3 Toolkit. Including level editing, save editing, and more.”

These features were disabled and hidden—but with them, you could conceivably create your own custom levels, even campaigns. It seems very reminiscent of the Divinity Original Sin 2 modding toolkit, which had many of the same features. So if you’re familiar with that program, you may well know what you’re doing.

If not? Well there’s a learning curve ahead. But the possibilities seem limitless right now. And with more than a million mods installed over the course of the first weekend of official mod tools support, there’s more to come. I can’t wait to see what this means for Baldur’s Gate 3. Here’s hoping Hasbro/WotC don’t try to tamp down on the mods to try and lock down anything that smells of D&D and digital tools.

Baldur’s Gate 3, Patch 7 continues to be the gift that keeps on giving!
