Greg Tito, formerly the communications manager for Dungeons & Dragons, has left WotC after nine long years for different things.

This past Friday, Greg Tito announced that he had left Wizards of the Coast after nine years as Communications Manager for Dungeons & Dragons. Tito posted on Bluesky that he was headed for a career in the Washington state government – a field filled with just as many arguments about rules and their interpretations but with hopefully fewer ogres in the mix.

Greg Tito Leaves WotC

Tito spent nine years at Wizards of the Coast helping to build up the incredible public-facing of the D&D brand. His work included the D&D Live concept, which you might recall from the pre-pandemic years, featured live play events with celebrities and gaming tables, as well as announcements from WotC about the future of D&D. The event really helped kickstart the nascent actual play scene. The first two audiences started to see many of the D&D streaming staples come together.

It also featured Matt Mercer as Boo to Jim Zub’s Minsc – foreshadowing in a way Mercer’s role in Baldur’s Gate 3 as the Rashemi Ranger himself.

Tito was also cohost of the Dragon Talk podcast up until it went on hiatus back in 2023. On the podcast, Tito also revealed upcoming news, lore facts that would occasionally coincide with coming releases, and featured many special guests. Again, Tito’s work on the sense of D&D’s community was far-reaching.

Now, he will be working with the office of Washington’s Secretary of State as Deputy Director of External Affairs, per the Bluesky announcement. A move that must feel good in light of the changing climate within Wizards of the Coast. As Hasbro and WotC continue to grow and shift, the people cut loose, and those who have left take something intangible with them.

While we’re sure Tito will be missed at WotC, here’s hoping the government proves to be a more forgiving DM.

Happy adventuring, Greg!
