Modiphius’ ‘Discworld RPG’ Soars, Like Great A’Tuin, To Success
Modiphius’ Discworld RPG Kickstarter has raised over a million dollars so far, and that’s just the first day or so.
Roll out the hippo banners, discount the meat pies made with a genuine pig (even if it’s cutting your own throat), and get ready to celebrate. Not only is Modiphius’ new Discworld RPG a day-one success on Kickstarter – a feat which means, among other things, that it’s likely to keep snowballing – it’s well past the $1,000,000 mark.
It is an impressive feat indeed, but also a great milestone. Modiphius has said that if this Kickstarter does well, it will look at further exploring the Discworld in other books no later than August 2026.
With the Kickstarter off and running to such a promising start, here’s what you should know.
The Discworld RPG Kickstarter – Puns Really ARE The Highest Form Of Comedy
This campaign marks the return of the Discworld to the realms of tabletop roleplaying games. And for this go-round, Modiphius has developed a unique new RPG ruleset that is powered by dice and, more importantly, puns. Because humor and heart are of paramount importance to the Discworld; so too are they baked into the rules.
In the campaign, you’ll get your choice between two gorgeous new Core Rulebooks that won’t be available anywhere else. There’s the regular Kickstarter Edition and the stunning Collector’s Edition:
“This campaign will fund the publication of rulebooks and accessories for a new edition of a Discworld tabletop roleplaying game. Knowing we wanted to remain true to the look and feel we most recognise, the campaign features a new, original, Collector’s Edition cover by Paul Kidby, who worked closely with Sir Terry to develop the unique illustrative style for Discworld. Neither Kickstarter Core Rulebook will be available in retail, and are exclusive to this crowdfunding campaign and Modiphius.
Management wants backers to know that it’s a new, original illustration by Paul Kidby, and that it’s finished with spot UV varnish to bring out the details. Management also wants backers to know the page edges are gilded in gold, and it features no fewer than two reading ribbons. And that’s on top of all the other goodies available as part of the Kickstarter, including a GM’s toolkit, special custom dice, an adventure book full of things to do, and plenty more.
So far, unlocked stretch goals include bonus bookmarks, a PDF supplement detailing the guilds of Ankh-Morpork, a Character Sheet Postcard Pack, another PDF guide to the streets of Ankh-Morpork, a special set of Death Dice, a Hogswatch Adventure, a metal replica of the Ankh-Morpork Watch badge, a Watch-themed dice set, and a bonus adventure about the revolution that put the Patrician of Ankh-Morpork in charge.
