The Leagues of Votann might be the reimagined Squat Army for 40k but The Ironhead Squat Prospectors are keeping the old units alive and well.

Recently the Squat Prospectors have gotten trikes. Those are certainly an updated looking miniature but with a nod to the old school trikes of the Squats. But this little gang of misfits is more than just a cheeky nod to the old school squats. They are quite literally bringing back old units.

The Ironhead Squat Prospectors borrow more than a few things from the old school squats. It makes a lot of sense! But in particular their style of armor and helmets are a direct throwback to the old Squat Army. But check this out:

Here’s a look at all the old metal squats. While there are some similiarties you can tell these old Squats leaned more into the “Space Dwarf” vibe than the Ironhead Squat Prospectors. They have more Viking-style things going on with runes and animal horns. But this also show off another unit the Ironheads borrowed:

They have the Exo-Armor of their ancestors coming soon, too. It’s cool to see this more modern take on the truly old school Exo-armor of the squats. There’s also other character that have shown up that are call backs to these infantry miniatures.

The Champion looks a lot like the heavy weapons but with the more modern take on how he’s holding the gun. While the Claim Jumper makes me think of the Standard Bearer only with a Pick-axe instead of a standard.

Then of course there are the new trikes. Those are clearly taking their inspiration from these old school Squat Trikes.

I do like the big wheels on them plus they make sense for a group that drives around the Ash Wastes.

Finally, I wanted to mention the very heavy duty Skalvian Explorator. I don’t know about you but I certainly get some epic-vibes from this one.

And sure, the size of the Squat Cyclops would have been larger if it was made for 40k-scale. And the Skalvian doesn’t have the giant hellfury cannon. But it’s got a ton of armor, tracks, and a big ole eye on the front. Almost like it’s a …Cyclops.

Anyhow, the point here is that while the Leagues of Votann are most certainly the new school of Squats, the old Squats are still alive and well in 40k. Their presence is no where near as large as it once was. However, they are just doing what they do best: Keeping a low profile and working to make a living!

I wonder if the Leagues of Votann or the Ironhead Squat Prospectors will get an Airship first…
