At long last, Pathfinder’s give heavenly hullabaloo kicks off, with the release of War of the Immortals. Out now!

War has come to the gods of Golarion. With War of the Immortals, a war in the heavens of Golarion begins. The death of the god of war, the advent of mythic heroes—all of this is only the beginning. This new sourcebook brings a ton to the table, from new ways to play Pathfinder to new snippets of lore and gods beyond measure.

It feels like a nod to the big overarching “metaplots” of yore, especially since the adventure paths are ongoing right now and kind of tie back into the War of the Immortals. Triumph of the Tusk is all about the orc gods and the orc people figuring out their place in the new world. And this is all just the start. There’s more coming very soon with Divine Mysteries next month. So, let’s take a look at the kickoff event.

War of the Immortals Begs The Question: Is Immortal Kinda Like Inflammable?

I’m very excited about this book. It feels like the kind of meaty splatbook you can sink your teeth into. It has a little something for everyone, and then it has plenty more little somethings. Here’s what I mean. First of all, there are two new classes, the Animist and the Exemplar.

The Animist is all about spirits. They attune to various apparitions which flavor the kind of magic they have access to, and of course, they cast spells. Their divine magic makes them flexible in combat and a surprisingly effective resource out of it.

Meanwhile, Exemplars embody divinity. This is a great class to play if you want some spotlight moments. Exemplars have a spark of divinity all their own that has awakened in their souls. And they use it to power up items in combat, weapons, armor, and miscellany. You get to be a legendary hero with this one, mixing it up in the front line with Champions and Fighters.

But then, on top of that, there are new lineages and archetypes. Nephilim are a thing once again, as are the archetypes for the Avenger and the Bloodrager, which are fan favorites from first edition. If you’ve wanted to play a Bloodrager, now’s your chance. The new archetype rules look pretty sweet.

And add to all of that the new “mythic” rules, which give heroes a whole other resource that can integrate with the game as much as you want. These put your heroes more in line with demigods and folk heroes. They also grant access to mythic destinies, which makes them powerful players in the world of Golarion.

“A god has been slain and nothing shall ever be the same again! As war and destruction spread across the world, new heres must rise to the occasion and take arms to protect its mortal inhabitants. Two brand new classes provide new ways to engage with mythic themes – lay claim to your own spark of divinity and charge into battle as a mighty exemplar, or call upon the power of spiritual allies as a wise animist. Alongside these new classes are rules for running mythic games, archetypes for playing legendary characters, and a wide array of new items, spells, and monsters to tell stories straight out of myth and legend.
