In Marvel Champions, you’ll customize your favorite heroes and work together to take down the most powerful villains in the Marvel universe.

Marvel Champions has been around for a good few years now and if you’ve never played this fantastic living card game, there is no better time to start! There are tons of additional new heroes and villains through the many expansion packs that have been released in the years since.

But if you want to play, you’re going to need the base game first.

Marvel Champions Overview

In Marvel Champions, players take the role of Marvel heroes. In the core set, this is Spiderman, She-Hulk, Iron Man, Black Panther, and Captain Marvel. As you might expect, in each game, players will be facing off against a villain.

Each villain has a certain number of hit points. The players win the game if they are able to reduce this to 0. However, the villains each have their own schemes they are attempting to enact. If they are able to complete their scheme before being defeated, the villain wins and the players lose.

The main draw of Marvel Champions is the deckbuilding. Each player will get the option to build their own deck to customize their hero. Each hero has specific cards that only they can use to build their deck. But there are also aspect cards which will favor specific playstyles and strategies.

For example, the Justice aspect has cards which are well suited to slowing down the villain scheme. On the other hand, the Aggression aspect is best suited to taking out smaller targets and dealing damage.

But finally, each hero also has an obligation to uphold. This obligation could be something like Peter Parker’s need to pay his bills, or Carol Danvers might have some family emergency. When the obligation is drawn, the hero will have to take time away from the fight to go deal with these challenges.

With so many additional heroes and villains and free reign on deck building, there’s probably literally millions of ways to play Marvel Champions.
