The RPG based on the popular occult/horror podcast, The Magnus Archives, launches into the wild at the end of the month. Here’s what we know.

The Magnus Archives RPG is finally close at hand! After a successful crowdfunding campaign that raised more than $2 million on BackerKit, the RPG will be up on Monte Cook Games’ webstore, and I wouldn’t be surprised to find it in your FLGS as well.

Because the five-season-long podcast was an unstoppable force in its own right. It runs off of Monte Cook’s Cypher System RPG, which is also behind games like Invisible Sun and Numenera, also available in select FLGSes. Here’s what you should know about it!

The Magnus Archives RPG, Launching October 30th

If you’ve never listened to the Magnus Archives, it is a horror podcast about a secret archive detailing many occult happenings in our world – but it goes places from there. And I don’t want to spoil it, but there is a spoiler section in the Crowdfunding campaign, so just know that you’ll delve into the themes and stories of all five seasons as you play.

It’s one I’ve been looking forward to for a while, especially with all the spiders. You can’t go wrong with spiders – occult little guys, you know.

“For 200 years, the Magnus Institute has quietly collected statements like these from people of all walks of life, detailing their personal experiences with the supernatural. Your organization is dedicated to cataloging and researching these incidents—but it’s becoming clear they aren’t as isolated as they first appear. There are connections between them—connections that suggest existential dangers to the world as we know it.

How will your team combat them, when simply coming to understand these dark forces threatens to bring you under their influence? Because when you stare into the archives, something starts to stare back.”

The game runs off of the Cypher System but with some specific tweaks to align it more to the themes and world of the Magnus Archives, including a method for generating “witness statements” to launch each case and rules for dealing with the stress and horror you’ll find in the shadows.

The Magnus Archives RPG launches at the end of the month, so pre-order yours now!
