Just in time for a Halloween feast, Total War: Warhammer 3’s Patch 5.3 overhauls Ogres mercenary recruitment, bounties, and more.

Ogre Kingdoms players, it’s time to feast. Laying the groundwork for some future DLC, Total War: Warhammer 3, Patch 5.3 is here at last. And with it comes a significant rework/rebalancing of Ogre Kingdoms mechanics.

From reworked recruitment caps to a new bounty system, there’s a lot to love. But it’s not just Ogre Kingdoms that get some attention. Vampire Counts get their Grave Guard with Halberds at last. And everyone gets at least a little tweak.

Total War: Warhammer 3 – Patch 5.3

First up, here’s a look at the new Ogre Mercenary rework. This should bring mercs more in line with the way they worked in Total War: Warhammer 2. Now everyone can call on someone big, angry, and hungry.

  • Increased the Ogre mercenary unit cap per army from 1 to 3
  • Ogre mercenary pools now replenish at a rate of 1 unit every 5 turns
  • The quality of mercenary units available now depends on the tier of the Ogre camp More mercenary units are now available from Ogre camps, including:
    • Ogre Bulls
    • Ogre Bulls (Dual Weapons)
    • Maneaters
    • Maneaters (Ogre Pistols)
    • Mournfang Cavalry
    • Ogre Giant

But that’s not the only improvement that Ogre Kingdoms are getting. The Mercenary Contract system has been renamed to Bounties (so as not to conflict with an upcoming DLC change). These new bounties can be taken up to three at a time and automatically refresh after you complete (or abandon) one, given a one-turn break.

There are also 16 new magic items that you can play with, many of which are a boon to Ranged players. You can find the full list of changes in the patch notes here.

In the meantime, the Great Maw hungers. So get out there. Get fed. And put more things in the stew.

Meat’s always been on the menu, but there’s a special on just now!
