Games Workshop has released quite a few updated Aspect Warriors and their respective Phoenix Lords. So who’s left? Let’s find out.

By now I hope you saw the Fuegan announcement. Games Workshop has been slowly updating all the Phoenix Lords as well as their Aspect Warriors. But there’s still a few left and there’s also some missing ones, too. Let’s go over these and check them off our list one by one.

One note, we’re going to be skipping any Forge World units. We’re going to stick with just the plastic kits below. And we’re going to skip the Crimson Hunters and just focus on the infantry units, too. Okay, now that that’s cleared up, let’s jump in!

Jain Zar & The Howling Banshees

Jain Zar got an updated miniature and was really the first in line for the updates. As a point of comparison, here’s her previous miniature:

It’s quite the update for sure. When she was relaunched, we also got updated Howling Banshees, too.

Above are the newest iteration of the Howling Banshees that came out in 8th edition. Below are the previous ones from 4th edition. It’s worth noting that the ones below aren’t the very first version from 1st edition.

Maugan Ra & The Dark Reapers

Maugan Ra is the Dark Reaper’s Phoenix Lord and he got another impressive plastic kit. That said, the previous version was also pretty metal. I wouldn’t hold it against anyone that still wanted to use the old mini instead…

As for the Dark Reapers they also got a nice glow-up when they went from the old kit to the new plastic version.

They not only got lighter and sleeker versions, they also got that sweet Dark Reaper statue, too. Still, I do like the old minis and think the metal ones still hold-up…even if they are a little dated.

So far, those two are the only Phoenix Lords and unit combos that have both been replaced with new plastics. Moving on from there, we start to see partial updates for the units or the Phoenix Lords.

Shining Spears

The Shining Spears are technically an Aspect and I know I said I was going to stick to infantry but I wanted to mention them. They DID get a new kit (finally) that replaced their old metal versions.

That said, to my knowledge, we’ve never seen a miniature from Games Workshop that was created for Drastanta, their Phoenix Lord. Kind of a bummer. But when their new kit was updated fans had hope that maybe the missing Drastanta would finally appear.

Karandras & The Striking Scorpions

Karandras is still the old metal miniature — if you can find him. Lore-wise, he’s technically not the founder of the Striking Scorpions but he’s essentially their Phoenix Lord anyways. Furthermore, he’s popped up in the lore and appears to be allied with the Ynnari. Perhaps we’ll see him get a new miniature one day, too.

The Striking Scorpions got a kill team dubbed the Blades of Khaine back in 2023. However, I’m not sure if they are currently available from GW in plastic. Perhaps they are just out of rotation and will finally get a new boxed set when the Aeldari codex comes out in 2025. Anyhow, here’s their previous metal miniatures:

Baharroth & The Swooping Hawks

Baharroth is still leaping to battle with his old metal miniature. Unfortunately, the same is true for the Swooping Hawks, too.

These miniatures were actually the updated version of the OG Swooping Hawks. They were released back in 2000 which means they are old enough to have vote in 2020 and now again in 2024.

Fuegan & The Fire Dragons

He’s technically not out …yet. But GW showed him off so I’m counting that. I do think this is a great looking update from the previous model as well.

I mentioned this before but I like the nods to the old miniature in the new design. I just wish he had a few more Dragon Scales on him.

Currently, these are the Fire Dragon miniatures. I think they still hold up but I’m wondering what will happen when Fuegan comes back. I do hope we get new Fire Dragons that match him in style.

Asurmen & The Dire Avengers

Asurmen’s model is getting up there for sure. I do hope that he gets a new look soon with a plastic miniature. That said, the Dire Avengers have been a workhorse unit for the Aeldari for years now.

These miniatures were basically the Space Marine Tactical Squad for the Eldar back in the day. I really want to see them get an update and have Asurmen lead the way.

Warp Spiders

The Warp Spiders have never had a Phoenix Lord miniature — in fact there’s some debate on who their Phoenix Lord actually is. What’s not in debate is how old these miniature are. They’ve been around sense 2nd edition and have never gotten an update. I think it’s time GW. I think it’s about time…

Which Phoenix Lord/Aspect Warrior combo do you hope gets updated after Fuegan?
