Warhammer 40K Hot Mess: CSM Possessed Need to be Warp-powered

Goatboy here and man I wish CSM Possessed were better.  I think GW should completely warp-infuse the unit – like this!

Instead of going into how I want to fix CSM Possessed output I thought why not go into a different direction.  Why not create these little god-specific units and make them interesting.  I love the idea of Marines that drank too much of the Daemonic 4 Loco and have ingested a plethora of daemon nonsense.  This idea that they have multiple things in them has me thinking there could be a cool way to make them interesting.

So hear me out. Why not make them be actual focal points of the Warp and how they interact with them.  My idea is instead of letting them be a specific mark or chosen of a particular god why not let them have an ability that lets them “pick” powers each turn to activate something.  I love the ability of armies that have once-per-game options or choices for units and thought why not do that with the CSM Possessed?

The current game is 5 turns and we can easily create an ability that coincides with each “Chaos God” and you have to choose at the start of the Battle Round which one you want to use.  You can’t double things up (maybe a specific character could let you do that like a Master of Possession) but you could set up a power ability to let you decide how the unit will play during each of those rounds.

Warp Enfused Possessed Rules

Let’s break it down with abilities that would match up how I would think they should play.

Chaos Undivided

This power would be the idea of increasing what they feel like is the central theme of Possessed.  This would be like this unit going full hog into a basic assault kind of idea and would most likely be something like gaining both pact powers when you do a pact for that turn.

This would give you Lethal and Sustained and just something basic and powerful as needed to give you the idea of Undivided.

Nurgle

This is the way to get this unit a bit tougher and last a bit longer if they are moving up, getting ready to be a problem next turn.  I always loved the idea that Nurgle would rebuild Possessed and this idea of Feel No Pain is easy to add onto a unit.

This one would activate a Feel No Pain where it would get better if you your Master of Possession attached to the unit.

Khorne

As we have Chaos Undivided going heavy into some assault options I would think making Khorne also punchy but in a different way would be interesting.  I think the idea that they are coming in hot.   Khorne should always be charging as the kids say and just pushing that with a two set ability that isn’t just extra strength and attack would be cool.

This would grant them causing Mortal Wounds on a successful charge and better bonus for making said charge.

Slaanesh

This is another fighting option but much more “sneaky” in their ability.   This would be pretty cool and something that can easily shift your unit as needed just to ensure they can be tougher to remove.

This one gives the unit an Advance/Charge option in top of just being hard to hit in combat due to the aura emanating off of the unit.

Tzeentch

Tzeentch has a few options if you want to think about it.  It is always easy to make their Invulnerable save better but we can really reinvision “The Twisting Path”.  This would be the fates of Tzeentch changing where they are at, maybe opening a portal, and letting the madness come out.  It would give this unit a bit more utility that isn’t just hey get to punching in combat.

This one gives the unit the ability to get picked up and teleport around the table.

About That Master of Possession

I love the idea of using the Master of Possession to super charge things too which would make this unit become a cool part of the possessed.  Heck I think it could make sense to just have this guy always leading the unit just like the Thousand Sons always have a Sorcerer attached to a unit.

What do you think?  Could having something you can shift too from turn to turn be cool?  Would you have it start off one way and you can shift and lock it from turn to turn?  Would it be too powerful or just give your army some cool options to play with?  The models are pretty cool and I would just like to use them more often when playing my CSM.

Would you like to see CSM Possessed go this way?
