Warhammer 40K: Kill Team – New Starter Set Announced For New Edition
The new Kill Team Edition is out and now Games Workshop has announced a new Starter Set to help you jump in.
You might be wondering the same thing I was thinking. “Wait, didn’t we just get Kill Team: Hivestorm? I thought that was the starter set?” Well, I had a funny feeling about this one as I called out that Hivestorm was a “while stocks last” type of a deal. I wasn’t sure if that was referring to the tokens or the boxed set. Well, now I have an answer.
But for those just starting down the path of Kill Team, there’s a Starter Set coming to teach you your Conceal Orders from your Tac Ops. This package contains 14 push-fit miniatures in two teams: the proud Space Marines of the Angels of Death facing down the degenerate heretics of the Plague Marines.
New Kill Team Starter Set
There’s actually some big news hidden in this release — for both collectors and Kill Team players. First up for collectors, look closely at these two Kill Teams.
Space Marines Kill Team
Nurgle Plague Marine Kill Team
If you’re looking at those models and you’re thinking “I know those but I can’t quite place them. Where have I seen them before…” That’s because they weren’t released in a typical boxed set. These are from two different generations of the Space Marine Heroes blind boxes. You remember those, right? The ones where you had to just random blind buy the boxes in the hopes of getting the miniature you were still missing from your collection to complete the set. Yeah…those boxes.
Well, good news! If you were missing any of them you can now snag them ALL at once in the Kill Team Starter. Now, if you already have them all, well you’re also in luck because now you have a Kill Team ready to go!
But wait, there’s no rules for Plague Marine Kill Teams. And yes, you’re correct…for now. That’s the other bit of good news for Kill Team players: Plague Marines ARE getting a Kill Team update that will be on WarCom and in the app soon.
Aside from the returning miniatures, you’re also going to get your hands on everything you need to play Kill Team including dice, tokens, a play board, and a 64-page introductory booklet with rules and missions included. Oh, and the terrain in this set is ALSO a new and exciting development from Games Workshop: It’s made of wood.
“The Kill Team Starter Set comes with easy-assembly printed MDF terrain that slots together in seconds, so you can get right into your first games without needing to build and paint loads of plastic walls and ruins.”
YUP! Games Workshop is moving away from the plastic pieces in this set and opting for new printed MDF terrain. I’d probably use some wood glue or something for assembly but the fact that we’ll be able to throw this together without needing to paint is awesome. You could also NOT glue it so that everything repacks nice and flat. But you do you.
From the reprinted miniatures from the Heroes Series to the MDF terrain I think this new starter set for Kill Team is making some steps in the right direction. The new Starter Set should be coming from GW in a few weeks and we’ll be keeping our eyes out for this one.
GW making printed MDF terrain? Interesting…
