We got the miniatures from the new Kill Team Starter Set in the studio and we’re taking a closer look and the Kill Teams!

You probably know by now that a new edition of Kill Team is coming. It’s out for Pre-order this weekend. Included in the box are two Kill Teams that were formerly from the Warhammer Heroes series. These were packaged in blind buy boxes so it was a bit of a hassle to collect them all — unless you just purchased a display of 8…and then you had a double. Anyhow, they are back and repackaged in the new Kill Team Starter Set along with some new MDF terrain.

Additionally, you’ll get everything you need to play Kill Team with these two sets — dice, tokens, a double-sided board, etc. From what we could tell this one was a pretty solid deal. The good news is that since this is the new Starter Set for Kill Team it should be around for a while. So let’s check out these miniatures!

Again, these were technically released previously. They are still push-fit and come with the dyed plastic. Personally, I like that each of these miniatures is unique in their own way as it adds character to them unit as a whole. This also makes it easier to tell who’s who in your games of Kill Team with them. I still think they are impressive looking considering they are push fit, too. Easy to build doesn’t mean “lacking in detail” which is a good thing.

Just like the Plague Marine Kill Team you get the same push-fit minis from the Warhammer Heroes series. Only these are dyed blue because they are Ultramarines. And again, they look good for being mono pose minis. I forgot to mention this for the Plague Marines but I also like that all their bases are pre-textured and ready to go. That makes these Kill Teams uniform among themselves, too. I do find the squad composition a little odd for both of these Kill Teams…but that’s coming from “a standard game of 40k” perspective. For Kill Team, having these specialists in the Kill Team makes sense. Additionally, if you’ve been playing Space Marine 2, then this combined arms approach might make even more sense.

The Terrain

One more thing I want to call out is the terrain. While we didn’t have any snaps of it for this article, I can say that’s it’s just like the pictures from GW. You get a good mix of sizes which are perfect to get you started for Kill Team. Visually, if I’m being honest, they can clash a little with some of the plastic kits. However, that could also depend on how you painted your plastic kits! It doesn’t really bother me when playing as they are just flatter/thinner walls in my head.

The new Kill Team starter set is out now and up for pre-order from Games Workshop this weekend. Collect these once hard-to-get Kill Teams from the boxed set and play some games!

I do kinda want those minis…
