The Blood Angels are getting Primaris reinforcements for some iconic units. It’s Sanguinary Guard time in 40k!

There’s a new batch of Blood Angel miniatures up for pre-order and we got our hands on them early thanks to Games Workshop. The Sanguary Guard, Sanguinary Priest, The Sanguinor, and the new Blood Angel Captain are in the studio! We’re going to take a closer look at all these minis right now.

The Sanguinor

The Sanguinor miniature has gotten Primaris’d with this new update. He’s not rocking a larger base as well as the larger scale proportions to match. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I know this one is a little divisive but I like this update. It’s an homage to the previous miniature:

You can see a lot of the same elements translated to the new miniature that were pulled directly from this old one. Specifically the pose itself. And yes, it’s kind of a goofy pose to begin with. It’s certainly more symbolic than a “Battle Pose” for sure. One thing I will give this sculpt credit for is not having the Sanguinor standing on a tactical rock or tactical skull. Instead he floats above the battleground on tactical scrolls.

Blood Angels Captain

This kit is another new one for the Blood Angels. The Captain has a TON of different options and I think that if you are starting a Blood Angel’s army or if you’re just looking for a ton of great bits, you should snag this kit. There’s no way to use ALL of the options on a single model so this kit makes for good conversion sourcing.

Get creative with this one. After you assemble him (depending on what options are left) you could really spruce up some squad leaders or other characters in your army. Just the fact that you’ve got extra options is really nice in my opinion.

Sanguinary Priest

Speaking of extra options, the Sanguinary Priest has a few of them. Those options mostly revolve around his helmet and if you want him rocking a heavy bolt pistol or chainsword. Regardless, This is another good update for the Blood Angels in general as it makes the Sanguinary Priest a Primaris Marine option in stature. I also like his little servo-skull buddy on the base.

I the Sanguinary Guard are another divisive unit in terms of reception. Personally, I think these are fine. I do miss the big wings from the old kit but I’d still take these to the tabletop — especially after their rules update. But I’m not here to talk about that, we’re here to focus on the miniatures. I will say that I like the new Primaris version of this unit. I also like the banner that’s included as well. You get options for spears or swords and you’ve got some various ranged options, too. You can also build this unit with or without helmets. So once again, you’ve got options.

I still think the new mini wings are awkward looking. I want to see if the old wings will fit in some way. Or I’d just leave them off or swap them out or something. Anyhow, I’m still going to get one of these (maybe two boxes) for my own Blood Angels. But you do you!

All of these new Blood Angels are out for pre-order right now from Games Workshop. They should be in stores on or after their official launch day of October 19, 2024.

The Sanguinor and Sanguinary Guard dropping in on top of the enemy does seem pretty good…
