Warhammer 40K: Three Burning Questions After World Eaters Rules Changes
Goatboy here trying to update my World Eaters army after the Munitorum Field Guide dropped. Here’s my biggest questions – help a Legionaire out!
World Eaters has been the army I have played the most in a long time. Heck it is sitting at 5.5 events (had to leave one halfway thru cuz of a sick kiddo to help out the wife) and have enjoyed my time with them. There is something glorious about trying to figure out the puzzle of doing the most damage to the opponent in the combat phase. As I still continue working on a Blood Angels update (Jump Pack World Eaters in a way) I continue to look inward in my World Eaters army and try think of the different things I want to try out.
Angron – Is He Worth It?
The first thing I want to mess with is bringing back Angron to the army. I have played a lot of events without Angron and while I have had some success I have also missed that giant monster of a Daemon Primarch. There is something fun about throwing that guy around and while I have basically barely rolled triple 6’s in my games – maybe I will roll it more if he is actually in my army. I think the idea of getting this guy back once can be such a huge shift in the game that it might be worth it to have him in there. I also really like the one I painted and it would be fun to play with him again. Plus sometimes just shoving that guy down the playing field and watching him crash into an enemy unit like some kind of crazed bowling ball of destruction does amuse me. Skulls for the Skull Throne!
Maxing Out World Eater Terminators – Yes or No?
The next thing I am really thinking about messing with is looking at building out another ten Terminators. There has been some fun chatter and events run with 20-30 of these guys and I think there could be some play there. Max Terminators are for a different variant of World Eater army that doesn’t try to hit you all at once and really utilizes Turn 2-3 to get there and start working. You mix this with the stalking monster of Angron in the backfield and you start to get a really nutty set of counter punches and other fun things.
I think I want to run twenty Terminators with a unit of six Exalted Eightbound. It is designed to deep strike in and try to “pin” the enemy in or at the very least mess with their castle as the Terminators stalk the middle. It is a big investment to buy another ten Terminators but I keep thinking about it as I look towards painting some things for me from time to time instead of client work.
World Eater Helbrutes – Maybe?
Finally the last unit I am tempted by is the World Eater Helbrute. They clarified how it just keeps on attacking and I wonder if having one or two as little mini bullies might be worth it. I don’t know if going full Assault options with double fists or finding room for a Multi-melta might be better on this set up. They can do some fun things with charges and Tank shocks to help gift some mortal wounds to the enemy from time to time. I also like the idea that they are not too big which allows them to move around some of these tighter boards.
I think a Heroically Intervening Helbrute could really be a problem for an opponent if they come in, get a chance to punch something and then maybe another chance to punch again. It could do some serious damage to stuff if it gets to throw out a bunch of hits into just about any unit. Or at the very least just do something goofy as it is pretty cheap.
I Really Just Want to Paint More Red!
Heck it just makes me want more units for World Eaters and hopefully some more CSM stuff flows in. Or at the very least just something unique and cool comes out with their new Codex whenever it does. I am thankful it has a workable Index + Detachment and while it isn’t always new and exciting it does bring more skulls to the skull throne.
What units are you excited to try out in your armies? Anything new and unique that got a points drop and gives you some hope? Something fun and cool ready to rip and tear its way thru the 40k table top for ya?
