Games Workshop has pulled the covers off the two other warbands coming with the launch of the new edition of Warhammer Underworlds.

We saw the roadmap for Warhammer Underworlds had listed two new warbands were coming to be released alongside the new edition. Now we know exactly what we’re getting. Say hello to The Jaws of Itzl and Grandfather’s Gardeners.

via Warhammer Community

“You will be able to pre-order the core set for the new edition of Warhammer Underworlds on Saturday. It contains everything you need to start playing, but it isn’t the end of the journey.”

The Jaws of Itzl

“The Jaws of Itzl were once part of a grander warhost sent to cull the Skaven incursion, but they were separated from their Slann Starmaster by a cave-in. The Sunblood Kro-Jax the Aegis now leads his Saurus Warriors Ro-Tak the Guardian and So-Kar into battle alongside a swarm of Sotek’s Venomites, executing orders he receives from the buried but still breathing Starmaster.”

These Saurus Warriors are on the hunt and still fighting. Without the direct oversight of their Starmasters they fight with a savagery that comes from their primal nature. What’s neat is their rules reflect it, too!

First up we get another look at the new card design. In this case it’s for Kro-Jax and Ro-Tak. For veterans of the previous edition you’ll be able to pick-up on the stats pretty quick. Now, as far as their Warband Rules, they are ready to unleash Savage Maulings…

This warband certainly feels like “Strike” style of warband. Ready to get in there and really pummel the enemy and make them pay for when they get hit.

Grandfather’s Gardeners

“This warband views the depths of Embergard as fertile ground in which to cultivate the Garden of Nurgle, and sow their diseased seeds while embracing the cycle of rot, ruin, and rebirth as a Mastery warband. “

Games Workshop is upping the gross factor once again with a Plaguebearer Warband. Led by Phlegmus Potbelly, they are here to spread the “gifts” of Nurgle to everyone. They have some nasty tricks to pull out as well. But more importantly they also come with their own unique rule that mirrors The Maggotkin of Nurgle.

“Grandfather’s Gardener’s are beholden to the cycle of life, represented in game by a tracker which advances after their turn, after damage is inflicted to a friendly fighter, and after their turn if the warband holds more treasure tokens than their opponent. When they Reap a Harvest, Nurgle’s blessings heal a fighter, and the Blooming Plague runemark provides attacks with damage equal to the current space on the tracker.”

Also accompanying these two warbands will be two more Rivals Decks. There is a Strike Deck called Reckless Fury and a Mastery Deck called Wrack and Ruin. These two decks match the playstyles of the warbands. However, one of the interesting things about this new edition of Warhammer: Underworlds is that you don’t have to run a Strike Warband with a Strike deck — you can mix the Warbands style with a different style Rivals Deck to come-up with some interesting and unexpected combinations. If you want to check out some of the cards in these respective decks be sure to read them on the WarCom site.
