We’re taking a closer look at the Age of Sigmar Battleforce boxes and breaking down how many points you’re getting in each.

Yesterday we took a look at the pure dollar value for each of these Battleforce boxes. Now we’re diving a little deeper to figure out just how many points each of them will provide you on your journey to a 2,000 point army. To do that we’re using the current Battle Profiles points from Games Workshop. So let’s break these down and point them out!

Note: We’re just pointing out the units in the box based on how Games Workshop listed them in the descriptions. We’re also using the base units from the descriptions and not any alternate build options. For example, the Ardboys are listed at 20 where their base unit size is 10. We’re just going to assume they have been reinforced and we’re going to double that base point cost to 360. Here we go.

Ironjawz Battleforce: Wrekkamob

Tuskboss on Maw-grunta = 280

6x Weirdbrute Wrekkaz = 220

20x Ardboyz = 360

Total Points: 860

Flesh-eater Courts Battleforce: Charnelgrand Jury

Grand Justice Gormayne = 110

6x Morbheg Knights = 340

10x Cryptguard = 120

6x Crypt Horrors = 300

Total Points: 870

Cities of Sigmar Battleforce: Founding Foray

Freeguild Marshal w/ Relic Envoy = 130

Freeguild Command Corps = 190

10x Freeguild Fusiliers = 120

Ironweld Great Cannon = 130

Fusil-Major on Ogor Warhulk = 180

5x Freeguild Cavaliers = 170

Total Points: 920

Maggotkin of Nurgle: Shudderblight Cyst

Harbinger of Decay = 170

5x Putrid Blightkings = 190

10x Rotmire Creed = 130

4x Pusgoyle Blightlords = 500

Total Points: 990

Well there you have it. Overall the Maggotkin of Nurgle will net you the most points at 990. The Ironjawz battleforces comes with the lowest point total at 860. Still, these boxes are basically half of an 2000 point army. If you manage to snag one of them and the Vanguard/Spearhead box of their respective army you’re well on your way to having a playable force.

The one exception to that is the Ironjawz box. The Spearhead for the Orruk Warclans features Kruelboyz so just be aware of that as there isn’t currently an easy upgrade (ie Vanguard/Spearhead) path for them. Yet…

In 2025, we’re suppose to get a new pair of Spearhead boxes for the Destruction armies — that includes Orruks Warclans and the Gloomspite Gitz. You might want to get that Ironjawz one and sit on it to see what GW does. But that’s just if you want to start the army. As always, I recommend you point out any army before you start buying kits just to see where you’re landing.
