Age of Sigmar: The Gitmob Is Bringing All The Wolves

Warhammer: Age of Sigmar’s Gloomspite Gitz are getting new wolf-friends. It’s the return of a classic gobbo horde!

When the World That Was was retired and the Age of Sigmar was born there were some monumental changes. One of those things was a lot of the “old” Warhammer armies shifted their focus. In particular, the Goblins of Warhammer Fantasy had their army identity refocused. They mostly focused on the Bad Moon and their more “Night Goblin” tendencies.

The dark robes, fanatics, and Squigs were highlighted as their “theme” in AoS. Eventually, the army also included the Troggoths (formerly the Trolls) as that range was also expanded upon. More recently, we got to see the Troggs get a lot more attention and even a beefy special character that really changed how they played.

Trugg The Troggoth King

Additionally, the Spider Elements of the army are still around but they seem to have really taken a backseat to the other themes in the army. And then, GW did something a while ago that was a bit of a curveball — they reintroduced the wolves that used to be a part of the Goblin Hordes. The Snarlfang Riders were here.

Snarlfang Riders

There were also the Snarlfangs from Warhammer Underworlds: Beastgrave, too. But more to the point, the Snarlfang riders were a callback to that old army. And apparently that was just the vanguard.

The Gitmob Returns

Coming soon from GW we’ll see the return of the Gitmob riding Snarlfangs (aka wolves). Again, this is actually a classic part of the Goblin Army and it’s making a big splash.

I do think it’s interesting they are basically led by a 100+ year old Jaggedsnarl (perhaps more like the puppeteer behind the seat of power). I also like the new take on them as they seek to “absorb the light” of the Glareface Frazzlegit. They see the light as a bully — but one they want to emulate.

While they still like the light of the Bad Moon, these Gitz seem a lot more outdoorsy than their cave dwelling kin. It makes sense then that they have these Snarlpack allies to ride around and chase after things. But again, these are all re-imaginings of the previous units. The light wolf cavalry and the wolf chariots of Warhammer Fantasy are coming to AoS.

My absolute favorite returning unit is the iconic Doom Diver Catapult! Not only is this thing MASSIVE it’s a fantastic callback to the old unit.

I’m a little shocked it’s taken this long for it to return. Again, comparatively, the new miniature absolutely dwarfs the old school one.

I also appreciate that it’s got a few different options for how you want to pose the …pilot of the Catapult. Do these Gitz know what they are attempting to do or do you think they don’t realize it until they hit their target.

These Gitmob releases are going to bring a lot of fun miniatures to the tabletop. They are also  opening the door to a old part of the Gloomspite Gitz army that I’m happy to see return. I do wonder if that means we’ll eventually see some Gitmob infantry or not. Perhaps that part of the army will arrive later on. Or maybe they will forgo the infantry entirely and stick to the light cavalry Snarlfangs.

Whatever the case we won’t find out for sure until 2025. The Snarlfangs are taking the cover of their battletome as well. I think GW has some plans for them in the future…

The Wolf Pack is ready to hunt in 2025!
