Ring of Chaos combines elements from TTRPGs, dungeon-crawling board games, and card games into a whirlwind of adventure.

Beadle & Grimm’s are known for top quality TTRPG modules with tons of flavor and flair. But now, they’ve stepped out of their comfort zone and designed their very first original game.

Ring of Chaos Overview

Ring of Chaos is a competitive tactical combat game where each player controls a party of adventures looking to control the titular ring of chaos, or to be the last party standing.

The ring begins in the center of the board and can be claimed by any party. Anytime the ring is picked up, that party gains 1 Summoning Point. Similarly, if they are still holding the ring at the start of their turn, they gain 3 points. The first party to 11 points wins!

At the start of the game, each player picks, or is randomly dealt, an adventuring party card. This will grant that player a unique ability they can use throughout the game.

Board Game and Card Game Combined

Players are also dealt a hand of cards. These cards can be used during the players turn to perform various actions like moving or attacking. Many cards are also linked to a specific class of the party, Fighter, Rogue, Cleric, and Wizard.

However, as parties fight and battle, individual party members will begin to fall. When a party loses a member, they can no longer play cards from that class.

But of course for every attack, there is a defense. Players will be able to play counter cards when their party is targeted. These can negate the attack or retaliate in some way.

Finally, on a player’s turn, they can use a Bonus action to pick the the Ring of Chaos, or steal it from an adjacent party. But the adventuring parties aren’t the only ones interested in controlling the ring. The temple guardians will also attack the parties and add yet another strategic wrinkle to the players’ decisions.

The first adventuring party to reach 11 points has enough summoning power to bring the gods of chaos to their aid (and win the game)! But, of course, it’s much easier to claim the ring if everyone else is dead. If one party is able to fully eliminate all others, they automatically win!
