Pass the stuffing and hold the conversation. In fact, let’s play one of these games and not talk about anything at all, all day.

Let’s be honest, for lots of people Thanksgiving dinner with the family can be awkward. Whether it’s questions about your spouse-and-kids status, your job, comparisons to your perfect sibling or cousin, or the dreaded political conversation starter, we have lots of things to avoid and only so many unique things to say about the weather. So let’s spend Thanksgiving avoiding small talk altogether with these food-themed games.

1. Foodie Fight

Are you a foodie? Do you just like food? Maybe you know a bunch of food-based fun facts. There’s a weird interest out there for everyone, and if munchies is yours, Foodie Fight is going to be your perfect opportunity to show off all of the weird niche stuff you now.

2. Taco vs. Burrito

Easy to learn and play, but a surprisingly strategic game, Taco vs Burrito is a food fight in card game form. Steal meals, deal with dummy aches, and create chaos as you build and defend the weirdest meal possible. This game was designed by a seven-year-old, and went on to surpass its Kickstarter goal by 2,400% and then won notoriety as an award-winning family game. This is fun, silly, and will definitely distract away from any uncomfortable topics.

3. Luffy’s Bento Panic

Luffy would (and has) overthrow an entire government for the promise of a meal, so distracting your family on Thanksgiving is downright tame by comparison. Bento Panic is a party game where the goal is to eat more than anyone else… Which is also pretty on theme for Thanksgiving dinners. But protect your plate and bluff about what you have there because your crewmates may just try to steal something off of your plate.

4. P for Pizza

P is for Pizza and in this game you are building a cheesy pie of your own. Only you do so by matching words on one card with the category on another. This is one of those games where shouting as loudly as you can is almost encouraged. You know, so your category words are heard and to establish dominance. If P is for Pizza is good enough for you, definitely start building your own pie!

Do you have the tune of the Cookie Monster song stuck in your head yet? Because I do! Pizza pizza pizza starts with P!

5. Charcuterie: The Board Game

Is your family fancy? Do they like to act like they are? Charcuterie is a board game where you build a charcuterie board. And yes, you will be judged on the final presentation. This game is simple and plays with the snooty aspects of social criteria. But in a fun way. Does this game come with the “I had charcuterie today!” sticker? Probably not. But you should absolutely make your own to hand out.
