Goatboy’s Warhammer 40K: Planning Your 2024 End of the Year Projects
Goatboy here working on a bunch or Warhammer 40K projects to take to to the new year. Join me with these Grimdark plans.
Goatboy here and I think I got one more event in me before I end my “2024 season” of 40K tournament games.
Hitting a Lot of Events
This last year I went to more events than I have in a long time. I was able to go to a lot more tournaments this year because my kids are getting older, my life getting a bit easier, and I have access to a lot of events close enough to drive too. All those help out a lot and let me actually play something like 7 events this year!
For those wondering – if you want to get good at the game – beyond just playing the best army you have to play a lot. You should also try to play the same list a lot too. All these things are just ways to get the repetition and let you not have to stop and think too hard during a time game. It is just the secret sauce in all of this tabletop stuff is just having lots of reps playing a game against decent people.
Also for those who are about to get into fatherhood or looking towards it just know that you will get worse at this game. There is no way to invest the time to really play soldiers and that is ok too. Heck one of the reasons I try to go to events is just to get a chance to put myself into the game bubble, not worry so much about life, and engage with a group of people trying to do the same thing. But this isn’t an article about that back to the actual Monday thoughts.
Practicing With Your Current Army (World Eaters for Me)
The End of the Season means one last ride with my World Eaters. I think for that last event I should bring back Angron and see what he can do. All the events I played without Angron was a lot of fun but I never fought against another World Eater player. I was hoping to get matched up, wreck their Angron, and just roll around as the Superior World Eater. We’ll see if the last event lets me try my hand out at beating up some other World Eaters.
Planning Your 2025 Army (Blood Angels for Me)
Its also the time frame to start figuring out if I want to do something else army wise for the next year. My first event of the year is usually LVO and this year should have me try to get my new fancy Blood Angels working. I am almost done with the initial list thought paint/build but I am feeling like I need to shift things a bit already. I want to get it done, painted, and start testing in hopes to find something unique enough to satisfy my desire for a different list.
I also want to build a better display board too but will just have to wait on that. I found a mini coffin display tray that should work and I think I will get to slopping on glue, sand, and other b its of terrain to create something space-vampire-y. Once I get that done I will write up a little thing about it as that is always an interesting side of this game and how we can create something fun and unique to show off our hobby.
Making it Through the Q4 Lull
This 40K 2024 Q4 lull has me searching around for inspiration. I know the new Xmas Boxes don’t interest me a ton. There really isn’t anything super Chaos like in the list of them and while I wait to see what next brings for army books it feels a bit dry on the initiative front of things. I keep thinking about doing a whole series of “creating” Chaos Lords for the different factions with drawing, building, and painting as a whole combo of nonsense.
I still think about doing a 40K comic again with a dumb idea that constantly floats to the top. It is a weird end of the year too as we don’t have a ton to talk about as we wait for the holiday season to start, the food to get cooking, and hopefully finding something fun under a tree, on your local stores wall, or in a box that got kicked around by a delivery team.
What are you wanting to work on as the holidays approach? Or is it just a sit, wait, and hope your army gets a good update and not a lackluster shuffle?
