Huge LEGO Tatooine Diorama Has Over 100,000 Pieces, Tons of Star Wars Spaceships
This massive LEGO Tatooine diorama includes hundreds of thousands of pieces and is chock full of movie scenes and iconic ships.
Tatooine… the planet where it all started. It might be far from the galaxy’s bright center, but it sure ends up being super important! Maybe it’s the real star of Star Wars.
No Star Wars planet is quite as iconic as Tatoonie—or used as much. The desert world, scorched by binary suns, shows up over again in Star Wars. It’s the birthplace of Anakin Skywalker and where Luke grew up. And also the world that first introduced us to what Star Wars is all about, from the foreign wonder and beauty of the Binary Sunset to the grit and out-of-this-worldness of the cantina scene.
It’s also world-famous for its seedy and cluttered cities, where much of the action takes place. It’s this underbelly that the LEGO builders Anders Horvath, Joakim Antman, Mattias, and Mikael Sjöstedt have recreated with their Mos LEGO build. This stunning and huge build ties together scenes from all over Tatoonie and beyond in an iconic desert city.
Massive LEGO Tatooine Diorama
Mos LEGO is truly a massive build. It contains what is clearly hundreds of thousands of pieces, though I doubt even the creators have a clear count. What’s crazy is that the four builders each built a section on their own since they do not live near each other. The first time it was shown off at a show was also their first time putting the whole thing together!
Luckily it fit, and since then it’s more than doubled in size, and they plan to add more. As such any attempt to quantify it’s true size and scale is always going to be outdated. However just looking at it you can see this is the kind of MOC you measure in feet (or even meters) not inches!
The original idea was to build one of the iconic hangers from the movies. That had to be sunk into the ground, which meant building up a big base. From there, it seems the whole thing just spiraled. It’s turned into an absolutely massive strip of city. There are a ton of buildings, both above ground and built into the land. It’s populated by tons of mini-figs, acting out many scenes, some iconic, some fan-faction.
You’ve also got a ton of vehicles all round. Some are docked in in bays, both others are blasting around in cool action shots. From what I can tell a lot of the vehicles are standard kits, but some are also MOCs. Of particular note to me are the big Flacon blasting-off and the really cool Jabba’s Den of Sin.
