Last Weekend For The ElfQuest RPG Kickstarter
The ElfQuest RPG Kickstarter comes to a close this weekend. Back now for the remastered anniversary set!
The ElfQuest RPG 40th anniversary remaster Kickstarter has been a rousing success. If you aren’t an OG ElfQuest fan, that’s understandable. It’s been a very long-running series of stories about Elves, love, war, identity, magic, mystery, and more.
It inspired an RPG a few years after the graphic novels debuted in 1978. And it has kept that inspiration going to the tune of more than 1500 backers. And with three days left to go, there’s still plenty of time to get in on this classic RPG remastered 40 years later.
The ElfQuest RPG Kickstarter Closes In 3 Days
ElfQuest is a name that calls to mind a whole other world. One of the possibilities of expression and exploration across all sorts of norms. ElfQuest was, and remains, an astoundingly progressive comic featuring nontraditional gender roles; sexuality expressed joyously between characters, acceptance of the love of all types, polyamory, familial love, and friendship, and all of this wasn’t even the focus of the story. They were just elements that mattered to the characters.
And all this despite being in the late 70s-early 80s, when a relationship with reversed gender roles might be played for a laugh but never anything more.
All that to say, ElfQuest was the right blend of joyous, sex-positive, and adventure-y—it was one of the first big “indie comic” successes. It went on to spawn a whole bunch of other projects, including a tabletop roleplaying game from Chaosium. A roleplaying game that will soon be reissued in celebration of its 40th anniversary.
The Kickstarter sees the return of the Classic Boxed Set. Included are the following:
- Elfbook – 80 pages of rules for players and GMs
- Worldbook – 40 page GMs guide
- ElfQuest Companion – 40 pages of “extra stuff” including new characters, adventures, and more
- The Sea Elves – 40 page book of Sea Elves
- Elf War – a linked mini-campaign
You also get a world map, custom dice sets, reference sheets, and samples of play. And that’s all before you take into account the cool stretch goals that have been unlocked.
