LEGO: Six of the Coolest Star Wars Dogfighting Sets – Action-Filled Space Battles in Brick
Take to space with some of the coolest LEGO Star Wars sets featuring epic dogfights.
LEGO Star Wars has a long history of putting out amazing kits. Over the years, they’ve only really gotten better, with an amazing number of great kits you can buy on the market. You have some really amazing kits featuring every faction imaginable, like the Empire and Rebels.
You also have some really amazing sets that feature multiple factions. While some of the big ground battle sets are really cool, my favorites are always the ones that show off a cool dogfight between two fighters. What’s more Star Wars than that? Here are some of the coolest of those sets around!

TIE Fighter & Y-wing- 1999 (U7150-1)
This TIE Fighter & Y-Wing set came out during the first wave of Star Wars set back in 1999. This LEGO Star Wars dogfight proved popular enough to get remade at least two times since then. Now there have been better versions of both the TIE Advanced and Y-Wing, but this was early days and this simple set was a great preview of what was to come. It’s pretty much the first of the dogfight sets every and made a big mark.
Its blocky fighters filled old-timers like myself with nostalgia. Plus, it was one of the few sets to give you two ships in one set, meaning you didn’t need anything else to get going. Pop the box, build the set, and space battles were right there for a kid. That is what these sets are all about!
Ahsoka New Republic E-Wing vs. Shin Hati’s Starfighter (75364)
This is a relatively recent (though it’s about to go away!) set tied into the Ashoka show. You get some of the cool characters from that show in mini-fig form, which is nice.
Shin Hati’s Fighter is a cool-looking retro ship, and a dogfight is always a nice kit. However, the real gem here is the E-Wing—a classic ship from the old Expanded Universe brought back into canon. This is the first time we’ve seen a LEGO version, and that’s super cool. I just love this LEGO Star Wars dogfight set.
Mandalorian Fang Fighter vs. TIE Interceptor ( 75348)
Another show tie-in (TIE-IN? GET IT) set the third season of The Mandalorian, this set features a Fang Fighter being pursued by a classic TIE Interceptor. It’s a pretty solid set that features a classic Imperial ship and a newer less well known ship. I think the Fang Fighter is very… flat looking and really gets the short end here, but the Interceptor is great. You also get some solid mini-figs with this set. Like the one above it’s going away soon.
Ahsoka’s Starfighter and Vulture Droid (7751-1)
Next up, a very different Ashoka tie-in. This one isn’t to her show but to the Clone Wars animated show. It’s not a super complex set, with both fighters being pretty simple, but it is one of the few Clone Wars dogfight sets we get and it’s still cool. I really like the addition of the buzz droids, and the Vulture Droid has some good playability. Both of those push it over the similar Jedi Starfighter & Vulture Droid (7256-1) set.
While that set is retired, you can still pick up the brick-built version of Ahsoka’s T-6. The 599 piece set has an accessible minifigure cockpit, retractable landing gear for smooth flight mode transitions, two stud shooters, and storage compartments to hold tools and weapons. Plus, Ahsoka Tano, Sabine Wren, Professor Huyang, and Marrok LEGO minifigs.
Vader’s TIE Advanced vs. A-Wing Starfighter (75150)
I honestly think Vader’s TIE Advanced might show up in the most dogfights of any ship. (Pretty sure Anakin/Vader is also the most common character). This set is a based on Star Wars: Rebels and gives us two great ships. Both the TIE Advanced and the A-Wing are classics from the OG trilogy. I think both of them look really solid in the set and come with working “blasters” always fun. It’s a great little set.
This set is out of print, but there is a TIE Advanced set you can pick up here and a massive UCS A-Wing here.
TIE Fighter & X-Wing Mash-Up Building Set (75393)
Last up, we have the brand new Tight Fighter and X-wing mash-up set. Now, it comes with a serviceable X-Wing and TIE fighter. This is the classic match-up and lets you refight some great fights. Strangely I think this might actually be the first kit to feature these two ships.
But that’s not really the genius of the kit or why I’ve put it in first place. You see, the S-foils on the X-Wing and the panels on the TIE can be swapped with each other, allowing you to build hybrid ships. There is actually a term for this in Star Wars: Uglies. It’s great to see them doing something different with these sets.
All in all, that means you get not two ships but four ships in this dogfight. Allowing you to not just recreate the most classic battles of all, but some cool fights from the old EU. This is a set that really takes advantage of these being LEGOs and gives you something you can’t get elsewhere.
