LEGO has made another ship that met her end in the ice—the Endurance. Build the iconic Antarctic explorer with this new set.

The Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition was meant to make the first land crossing of the Antarctic continent. In 1914 explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton aimed to sail to Weddel Sea near the Antarctic Peninsula, land a party, and then lead a transcontinental march. It would take two ships to carry all of the supplies required – the Aurora and the Endurance.

All didn’t go according to plan. The coal-fired, three-masted Endurance became lodged in pack ice and finally sank in 1915 after being crushed. The Aurora survived the journey and acted as a rescue vessel for the 27 men who were on the ice bound ship.

The Endurance was discovered where it sank off the coast of Antarctica in 2022. It was frozen in time, 9,869 feet under the ice.

The brick-built model captures the ship in all its glory with three masts, ten full sails, a flying red ensign flag, and intricate rigging. The multi-level deck is connected by stairs and has has removable sections for access to port as well as the starboard cabins and the ship’s steam engine. It also features four detachable lifeboats, a chained bower anchor and a ship’s wheel that operates the rudder.

It comes with a sturdy stand for display. If you’ve got a nautical collector on your holiday list, this is a perfect set.
