Play As The Shark or The Humans In ‘Jaws: The Board Game’, Now Nearly 60% Off!
Fans of Jaws will love this highly rated one-versus-many style board game of action, suspense, and lots of teeth.
Not too long ago, I talked about my oddly-specific obsession in board games. I love games with multiple distinct phases. Well, good news for me and for fans of Jaws! Today Jaws: The Board Game is nearly 60% off!
Jaws: The Board Game Overview
Two teams go head-to-head- over control of Amity Beach. One player controls the shark, the remaining players control Brody, Hooper, and Quint. Ultimately, the goal of either team is to be the end of the other. But, as mentioned, the game players in two phases.
During the first phase, the humans are tracking the shark, and the shark is eating swimmers. During the shark turn, the player will use a secret pad of paper to track their movements in secret from the remaining players, eating swimmers along the way. Additionally, the shark has a few single use powers to help it evade capture and aid in eating even more swimmers.
Meanwhile, the humans are using their wits and gear to mitigate the damage. They’ll track the location of the shark, save swimmers, close the beach, and most importantly, attempt to attach barrels to the shark. As soon as the humans are able to attach 2 barrels to the shark, or 9 swimmers are eaten, the game moves into the next phase.
Gonna Need A Bigger Boat
In the next phase, the humans are shark are battling it out to the death! The board flips over to show the boat. The shark will randomly pop up around the boat and take chunks out of it and the crew aboard. At the same time, the humans are attempting to predict where the shark is will appear, and ready their own attacks.
Depending on how quickly phase 1 ended, the humans and sharks will have different strength in the second phase. So if the first phase went poorly for the humans, the shark will have many more cards to use during the fight. And vice versa, if the tracking phase went poorly for the shark.
Once the shark’s health is reduced to 0, or the boat sinks, the game is over and it should be pretty readily apparent who wins based on which victory condition.
If you’re a fan of Jaws you really should check it out. The board game mirrors the movie very well in a lot of ways, and I, personally, love the two phase system.
