Warhammer 40K: The Top Unit to Buy for Each Space Marine Army
Goatboy here with the single best Warhammer 40K unit to pick up in 10th Edition, for each Space Marine army you might play.
As we get closer to Xmas time 2024 when the extreme winter comes out to attack your battlefield we can step back and look at the best things to get for the Emperor’s finest armies. These units are easy slam dunks in 10th Edition’s current meta for those Space Marine players on your gift list and an easy purchase to wrap up and place under their battle ready Xmas Tree. These are easily the best for each of your favorite grim champions of the Grimdark.
5. Black Templars – Sword Brethern
This is a unit that has gone up and down in the Black Templar army list from time to time. It is still a great little boxed set that you can use to make all kinds of cool stuff. It is still a very flavorful unit for the Black Templars that is built upon a Primaris chassis and will most likely never get a new kit anytime soon. This means Sword Brethren are a safe box to buy for your favorite crusader who wants to bring the Emperor’s light to those living in the darkness of the Grimdark universe.
4. Blood Angels – Sanguinary Guard
One of the Blood Angels new kit – the Sanguinary Guard are a perfect gift for the space vampire living in your house. This kit gives you three models with all the options available so there isn’t a need to go kit bash anything. The only thing I think for any player is to figure out how you want to get a Banner on a guy with a Sword just due to the banner set up that is attached to a Spear. I am sure you can go look for a sheathed sword or figure out some other way to work it out.
3. Dark Angels – Deathwing Knights
This is the poster child for a Dark Angels army as they are tough, bulky, and look frakking awesome. Thankfully the Deathwing Knight kit is brand new and looks to be showing up in a bright and shiny new Xmas box so it should be pretty slam dunk gift to give to your favorite sinister, secretive Marine player. They are just really good when you play the game just due to being tough, good at dealing damage, and a pain to remove if they get on an objective and deciding it is their’s to control.
2. Space Wolves – Thunderwolf Calvary
The only issue with this kit is while it looks cool it could get an update in the coming months when the boys from Fenris finally gets their codex. This is still a pretty important kit for the army as it gives you the pieces to make your regular Thunderwolf Calvary unit, parts to let you build a Wolflord on a Thunderwolf Calvary, and even lets you create a Lieutenant on a giant wolf of doom.
1. Space Marines – Ultramarines – Centurion Devastators
The reason I selected these guys is easy. Start with a single unit of Centurions, add some Ultramarine characters and you’ve created a really brutal little unit that will move around table like it owns the battlefield. You create an assault punching option that can shoot things, move pretty fast, and just shoot you from far away if needed. It isn’t the prettiest unit, but it is something to always think about when you want to go hard in the Blue heroes of the Imperium and you like to paint giant chonky units. The unit being Toughness 7 with a pile of wounds is also a giant pain in the butt to deal with.
Honorable Mention – Grey Knights – Grey Knight Terminators
This is a decent unit to buy as it lets you create regular Grey Knight Terminators, Paladins, and even an Agents of the Imperium unit too. All of these things are pretty cool and good starting point for any Grey Knight player. The only real issue is that it is an old unit and has a pretty strong chance at getting updated in the future as the plastic dudesmen are pretty short, not nearly as blinged out as others, and feel kinda of sad next to other Terminator options. Still it is a solid unit for any player wanting to wreck the table with Psychic Warriors for the Emperor.
Happy Grimdark shopping!
