CD Projekt Red stealthed a sneaky gift to one and all in Cyberpunk 2077’s latest update: a free pdf of the starter rules, if you know where to look.

Christmas in Night City might be a fraught time full of bullets, targeted advertisements, and red and green neon lights. You’ll have a chance to find out for yourself if you’ve downloaded the latest update for Cyberpunk 2077.

CD Projekt Red has given everyone an early gift in the form of Cyberpunk RED: Easy Mode. How did they do that? They snuck it, unannounced, into the bonus content. Here’s what you need to know.

Cyberpunk RED Quickstart Rules Hidden in Cyberpunk 2077 Update

CD Projekt Red really buried the lede here, too. The patch has been out for a little more than a week now, but folks are only just discovering the gift. As Polygon pointed out earlier, the Quickstart rules are hidden in the bonus content packed in the latest update.

The rules, dubbed Cyberpunk RED: Easy Mode, have basically everything you need to get started. You’ll find a PDF full of the basic lore of Night City and its environs. Alongside that are the basic rules for the game, as well as five premade characters, and the “Getting Paid” tutorial mission.

You could start playing right now. Or at least as soon as you get your friends together. The prep is minimal, though if you’ve never played Cyberpunk RED there is a little bit of a learning curve. But that’s what I like about the system, it offers up at least a little depth to pull you into Night City’s haze of neon tinged air pollution.

All you have to do is make sure you’ve got the “Cyberpunk 2077 bonus content” downloaded from Steam. After that, it’s tucked away in the Guides section of your bonus content folder, wherever it may be. So get out there and dive in. Night City beckons.

To this, as Jackie would no doubt cringe to hear you say.
