LEGO: Brandon Sanderson’s ‘Cosmere’ Joins The IDEAS 10K Club
Could Cosmere be the focus of the next LEGO Ideas set? Check out a diorama that showcases scenes and locations from the best-selling books.
Brandon Sanderson’s fantasy novels are set in Cosmere, an interconnected universe filled with magic. The books take place mainly on one world, but many others are mentioned – all part of the broader galaxy of Cosmere and a hidden epic. Each world has semi-sentient Shardblades, made of part of an ancient, shattered omnipotent being called Adonalsium. These weapons allow characters to wield powerful magic.
The Cosmere series includes multiple best-sellers. This year, the RPG set in Sanderson’s fantasy universe brought in over $15 million on Kickstarter. Needless to say, the universe’s popularity means a LEGO set isn’t out of the question. Lucky for fans, there’s one up for review.
LEGO Ideas – Cosmere
The LEGO Ideas program has produced some amazing sets – from a brick-built version of Van Gough’s Starry Night to that famous scene in Jaws. This potential Cosmere set has recently joined the 10K club and is awaiting review and, hopefully, LEGO’s approval.
ChiefWilyChair is the creator behind this set.
I’ve created sixteen dioramas containing either specific moments from the books, or non-specific moments that would commonly occur on the planet in question. I’ve also crammed as many Easter Eggs into the background as possible, keep an eye out, there’s always another secret…
The diorama is packed with details and memorable scenes from The Stormlight Archive, Mistborn, Elantris, and others. And all of those scenes mean it has almost as minifigs as the Avengers Tower.
Included in this version are Kaladin, Shallan, Adolin, Sylphrena, Pattern, Dalinar, Lift, Szeth, Jasnah, a Singer, Kelsier, Vin (Mistcloak and Ballgown), Elend, Sazed, and Inquisitor, Wax, Wayne, Marasi, Steris, Shai, Hoid, and Brandon Sanderson himself. It also included brick-built models or parts representing Syl, Pattern, a Sand Master, Vasher, Wyndle, Shade, and Chasmfiend.
As you turn the model, you’ll travel to Taldain, Elantris, Scadrial, Roshar, and other key locations in Cosmere. Included are a mix of detailed scenes and miniature versions of cities and battles. Each has its own nameplate.
At the moment the number of pieces or dimensions aren’t available – it looks pretty dang big, though.
The set has a lot to offer fans, and it comes from a creator who loves the stories of Cosmere. He’s been working on this build for two years.
I believe that the spirit of adventure that fills every book in the Cosmere would translate well to a LEGO Set. Due to the distinctive designs of the creatures and settings, the Chasmfiend and Scadrial scenes in particular represent fascinating locations and interesting imagery providing the opportunity for unique builds. The biggest challenge of this set wasn’t what to include, but what would have to be left out.
The votes are in, and the next step is a review by the LEGO review board, which can take several months. Will you buy this set if it makes it to stores?
