Atomic Mass Games has a new transmission on some custom-built Star Wars: Shatterpoint Terrain that’s been kitbashed. And it’s awesome!

I love terrain in wargaming. It’s a key part of the immersion and overall appeal of tabletop wargaming to me. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll play on a felt covered tabletop with some old books as hills, too. But when you see a tabletop with awesome terrain you can’t help wanting to take a closer look. And then you get sucked in.

Well Atomic Mass Games knows a few things about good terrain. I like their Star Wars: Shatterpoint set as it’s easy to build, looks good, and it’s great to play on. But if you’re looking to take those same kits to the next level they have brought in a pro to show you how.

Atomic Mass Games commissioned Rob Hawkins to create terrain for Star Wars: Shatterpoint. But he didn’t just make awesome kitbashed terrain — he also documented it! Who is Rob Hawkins? Well, he’s got a blog with tons of cool projects on it. So go check him out and admire his work. He also was the mastermind behind the crazy awesome Ultron City Board. If you’ve flipped through the rules for MCP, you’ve seen his work!

“When Atomic Mass Games commissioned me to make a scrapyard-themed battlefield for the Star Wars™: Shatterpoint miniatures game, they sent a ton of plastic kits my way to bring the thematic setting to life. In this series of tutorials, I will give you a look at my building process and show you how I customized the various terrain sets and vehicles to create some evocative scenery elements.”

So I’m not going to repost every single picture here. I highly encourage you to go check out the full article from AMG right here. There’s tips, tricks, and some details on how this terrain was crafted. And frankly, it’s inspiring to check out.

What I really liked about this one (besides all the pics of completed terrain to gush over) was a lot of the “before and after” shots. It’s neat to see how taking this weird shaped bottle (ie, some leftover waste) and combining it with a miniature kit creatively turns it into treasure.

Again, there’s LOADS of pics and details in this article. I’m really enjoying seeing the final product of this hard work. But I’m also looking at the “before” or WIP shots and getting inspired. The way this stuff is presented, it really makes me think “hey, I can try that!” To me, if a hobby article can make you want to hobby then it’s doing the right things.

It’s pretty amazing to see what Rob Hawkins has done with some of the kits, tools, and other everyday objects to create this terrain. There’s a full list of tools he used plus details about how he created these terrain pieces. If you’re looking for some advice, inspiration, or just some basic ideas for terrain go check this article out!

Anyone else feeling inspired to do some terrain building?
