The Leagues of Votann has a new detachment for Warhammer 40,000. The Hearthband is here. Check out their new Grotmas detachment rules.

When the Eye of the Ancestors locates a target there’s only one thing for the Leagues of Votann to do. They strap in their Exo-suit armor and get ready to go to pound-town! This new detachment is called the Hearthband and it’s about to rock out.

“When the Eye of the Ancestors has been fixed on some site or resource deemed vital to a Hold, the Kindred may form a Hearthband to ensure its swift conquest. Typically led by one of the most courageous and cunning Kâhls, such forces are painstakingly forged to complete the precise mission for which they are assembled. “

The theme of this particular detachment is really just blanket re-rolls of 1 to hit — provided you’re shooting at the closest target. Now, if you really want to take it to the next level, you’ll also want to include a healthy number of Einhyr Hearthguard. Yep, those elites are getting a nice boost boost to their Armour Penetration, too.

Honestly, this is for the folks who just really wanted to load-up on the Einhyr Hearthguard. Re-rolls of 1 to hit plus the extra AP just makes them flat out better. And naturally, the enhancements and stratagems also feed into this army build.

With four enhancements and six stratagems it’s a format we’ve seen on repeat for the last 16 days now. Which checks-out…this is a detachment, not a Wendy’s. There’s some straightforward boosts like the Ironskein which just gives the bearer an additional 2 wounds.

There’s also a couple “dirty tricks” you can pull. Like using the stratagem Unyielding Aggression to still shoot or charge after a unit falls back. Which, again, I think we’ve seen some form of in just about every detachment for Grotmas. It’s almost like Grots like to run away and then trick you with a sneak attack or something.

Still, Methodical Annihilation does apply to every Leagues of Votann model that’s shooting at the closest target. If nothing else that rule is good enough to get a lot of the heavy lifting done. If you’re playing a Leagues of Votann army this is a detachment worth taking to the tabletop.

More Exo-suits = More Awesome!
