6th Edition of ‘Catan’ Promises a ‘Modern Look and Feel to the Iconic Brand’
Perhaps the most influential modern board game, the 6th edition of Catan will be more accessible to a wider audience.
CATAN GmbH, CATAN Studio, and KOSMOS have announced today the upcoming release of the 6th edition of Catan.
“Catan has always been a game about thinking differently, challenging oneself, and bringing people together,” said Guido Teuber, CEO of CATAN GmbH and son of Catan designer, Klaus Keuber. “With this next iteration of the game, we are modernizing the Catan brand for today’s players, opening the doors to reach new audiences, and breaking down barriers to get people who may have never played a board game before excited about Catan. As a brand, this evolution showcases our continued commitment to leading the way in the board game industry and providing the best player experience possible to our community.”
6th Edition Catan – Fresh and Still Classic
The 6th edition of Catan maintains the essential mechanics that have made it a mainstay game for any gaming household. However, many of the game’s components have been updated to improve the overall experience. For example, observant fans will notice the font size difference in the resource chits. This provides an even more clear indicator of which hexes are likely to be more profitable.
Plus, the newly designed eco-friendly box trays and organized card holders provide a cleaner layout for playing the game.
In addition, the game’s rulebook has been given a fresh coat of paint. This incluses a cleaner design with more clear graphical examples. The goal being making it even easier for this gateway game to bring even more people into the hobby.
All of these changes won’t impact the gameplay for any longtime fans. However, they will help to usher in a new group of players who have been teetering on the edge of making their first board game purchase.
“In designing CATAN’s sixth edition, our goal was to enhance many parts of the player experience without redefining the game play […] to simplify the learning component of picking up the game for the first time,” said Benjamin Teuber, managing director and game designer at CATAN GmbH. “It was of utmost importance to us to of course maintain the brilliant and still contemporary game mechanics that our father created 30 years ago[…].”
The updated components and design will also be applied to the expansions as well, as they are released.
