Risk comes in many flavors, many of which we’ve covered in a list of Five Different Versions of Risk. But maybe the best flavor of Risk, is spicy.
Risk: Dune Overview
Risk: Dune takes the standard wartime strategy game we all know and love and adds some new mechanics to keep the game more in line with the popular sci-fi franchise. Players can choose between various factions to go head-to-head, based on the Denis Villenueve Dune Films.
Each faction has different characters to command. Including Paul Atreides, Feyd-Rautha, Lady Jessica, and Gurney Halleck. And as part of that, the players will use custom figures for Fremen, Fedaykin, Sardaukar, Harkonnen soldiers, and the fearsome Sandworm.
Rather than vie for pure dominance, each faction has unique win conditions. This directly allowed for greater replay value by granting different playstyles for each faction. One must befriend and rally the Fremen, the other must locate his family atomics and breach Arraken to reclaim the spice trade. And with gameplay only lasting about 60 minutes, it’s a game that won’t overstay its welcome.
It goes without saying there’s a big overlap of fans of Risk and fans of Dune. Even though the holiday season is over, there’s no reason you can’t surprise a friend with a gift now. Or maybe this is a great time to be your own best friend and get yourself something nice. It’s really tough out there nowadays.
