Generative AI of any kind, in any place, is out at the ENnies, according to a policy change statement published yesterday.

The neat thing about AI is that it’s everywhere despite almost nobody wanting it. It also isn’t really artificial intelligence, but that’s just an extra bonus. However, one place that you won’t find Generative AI in the future is at the ENnie Awards, according to a statement posted yesterday from the ENnie Awards.

This change will affect the 2025-2026 awards. Here’s what we know.

ENnie Awards Revises AI Policy – No AI At All – And The Community Rejoiced

The change in policy comes after “feedback” from the tabletop RPG community at large. The ENnies first policy, drafted in 2023, allowed for generative AI to be used in certain categories, as long as the rest of the product in question was “human created”. A product with AI art could still win for writing and vice versa:

“Under this policy, creators self-reported AI involvement, and submissions with AI contributions were deemed ineligible for certain categories. For example, products featuring AI-generated art were excluded from art categories but remained eligible for writing categories if the text was entirely human-generated, and vice versa.”

But that is no longer the case. Per the new policy, no works with AI will be considered:

“Beginning with the 2025-2026 submission cycle, the ENNIE Awards will no longer accept any products containing generative AI or created with the assistance of Large Language Models or similar technologies for visual, written, or edited content. Creators wishing to submit products must ensure that no AI-generated elements are included in their works.”

This means the 2024-2025 Awards will still have the old policy under effect, but going forward, things should improve. You can read the full statement at the link below!
